Ceradyne, Inc. develops, manufactures, and markets advanced technical ceramic products and components for industrial, defense, consumer, electronic, and microwave communications applications. The Company serves its markets and manages its business through three divisions, each of which has its own manufacturing facilities and administrative and selling functions. Ceradyne's Advanced Ceramic Operations primarily produces armor and orthodontic products, components for semiconductor equipment, and houses the Company's SRBSN research and development activities. The Company's cathode development and production are handled through its Semicon Associates division. Fused silica products, including missile radomes, are produced at the Company's Thermo Materials division.

Financial Summary
Ceradyne, Inc. develops, manufactures, and markets advanced technical ceramic products and components for industrial, defense, consumer and microwave applications. For the six months ended 6/30/01, sales rose 1% to $23.1 million. Net income decreased 2% to $2.4 million. Revenues reflect continued demand from customers for advanced technical ceramics. Earnings were offset by expenses for internally funded research and development projects.
