Kansas City Power & Light Company (KCPL) engages in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity to approximately 467,000 customers located in all or portions of 22 counties in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. Customers include approximately 413,000 residences, 51,000 commercial firms and 3,000 industrials, municipalities and other electric utilities. KCPL also owns unregulated subsidiaries. KLT Inc. holds interests in telecommunications, natural gas development and production, energy services and affordable housing limited partnerships. Home Service Solutions Inc. (HSS) holds interests in companies providing products and services solutions to residential customers. KCPL has also formed an unregulated generation company that will acquire additional generation for sales to wholesale markets.

Financial Summary
Kansas City Power and Light is a medium-sized utility involved in the generation, transmission, distribution, and sale of electricity to over 467,000 customers in western Missouri and eastern Kansas. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues increased 30% to $636.2 million. Net income before extraordinary items and accounting change applicable to Common rose 22% to $32.4 million. Results reflect higher retail sales, partially offset by increased purchase power expenses.
