My Interest in Music

I have always had an interest in music. When I worked the stage, I learned a lot about music; I had to read scores to determine lighting, sound and rigging cues. Since then I have improved my music reading skills, at a hobby level. It is interesting to read a piece of music and to appreciate its structure.

Once I started reading music, I also wanted to learn how to play it! The two instruments I am most interested in are the keyboard and the guitar. I have developed a self-taught keyboard skill on an ancient Casio VL-Tone, a keyboard shaped calculator which has a set of programmable ADSR envelopes to do sound synthesis work with. The VL-Tone has tiny chiclet calculator keys, is monophonic, and difficult to play. I have been thinking about getting a better keyboard these days, probably something MIDI so I can connect it to my computers.

I also enjoy singing. Most of the tunes I sing are folk, filk, or ballads from the pop & rock style. A random sampling of other songs which have special meaning for me, or that I just happen to enjoy for whatever reason are also included in my repertoire.
