I've been reading this book called "Into the Wild" and it inspired me to write this song...it's about this guy who gives up everything as we know it to wander the Earth looking for truth and meaning...he ends up starving to death in Fairbanks, AK about 30 miles from Healy (where I've done shows before solo and with a band)...it's a great read. The song is sort of about letting go and doing your own spiritual journey.

He's a Prophet
Lyrics/Music by Matt Hopper

The desert calls it’s got a hold on you
And I don’t want to be the one to hold you back
London called and he’s a prophet
And you don’t want to live by the rules any more now
Anymore now
Anymore now
C'est la vie

The road is brittle and your veins are spawling forth
It’s a roadmap to your health and too the north
The skies a roof but it’s enabled you
to live freely from the clutch of all that kills you
Oh it kills you
Yes it kills you
C'est la vie

And I am ready for the action
And I am down to decompose
I am all the things that I hate
And I just want to let it go

A tiger’s army will never keep you away
It’s a theory for the weak and selfish minded
To know yourself you’ve got to give it away
And feel the sun down on your cheeks and let it warm you
Yes it warms you
It really warms you
C'est la vie

You might call it running away
But I assure you it’s the only way for me

i think it's cheating.

you of all people don't need extra time...

but... (now that i see what it's about)... i know lots about that book and that author and the stampede trail... was just reading today about biking out there in the winter.

still cheating.

Cheating or no, it's a swell entrée into FAWM (even if it is 2 days early).

Lyrical suggestion: maybe "...for the weak and selfish mind." The "-ed" sounds outta place, and it makes sense without it.

Good show.

Oh my, I'm such a space cadet...I was all excited last night posting and everything thinking today was February. So sorry guys, I guess I need to write one extra! :) ha ha. Burr, good comment, I think I'll take it. I highly recommend the book as does Willis I think (?)...my favorite part of the song is the end where I sort of "go off" I'm wondering if I should pull that part into the middle of the song as well? What do you guys think? Part of me also thinks it's a nice way to end the song...with something different and hopefully, something people look forward to hearing???

Thanks for the go ahead Willis! ha ha. I love that coffeeshop. Enjoy it, there aren't alot like it out there...at least round these parts. I'm looking foward to our discussion on Krakaur and Supertramp. And I have begun...got a song almost finished.
