Song #1: No for an Answer
MP3 Demo - Download (3.3mb)

I finished writing this yesterday, and since my voice has 90% recovered from laryngitis I'll try to demo and post it tonight. It's actually a leftover from when I was trying to write a concept ablum a few years ago. I wrote the first verse and basic chord progression then, and just yesterday wrote the second verse and bridge/out-tro. Part of the reason I never finished it was that I don't really feel this way anymore; it's a bit more angsty than the place I'm at right now. But I think we all know what this kind of stubborn spiritual face-off can be like.

Disclaimer: This demo's a bit more hi-fi that most of mine will be... I just had some spare time to map out a drum pattern using some loops back when my voice was out of commission. Figured I could still be doing something while mute.

No for an Answer
lyrics/music by Burr Settles

feeling alone is sort of like feeling dead
except for the echoes of what you said
we're past the point of argument
sitting in a blackened room
on a sofa with a fifth of Jim Beam

back from the brink, but still in disarray
holding out for judgement; for what you'll say
and I can wait eternitites
just like you, with a cigarette and a mirror
this, my dilatory plea

follow my footsteps to this grave most everyday
I would apologize but all my guilt's been shamed away

I won't take no for an answer
I won't take no for an answer
I won't take no for an answer
I won't take no for an answer...

i like it. good to have totally different sounding things on here. the whole fidelity thing is so foreign to me...

I love how you say Juh-HIIIM Beam in this song...I now know what to order when one day we meet face to face.

I love the rawness of this song and the guitar riff...it's pretty Pedro/Control vocalwise...which I don't mind one bit.

heh... i'm a maker's mark man myself, but i don't think the character in this song was in a red-seal mood, so the beam it had to be.

the beginning of this song actually pre-dates my pedro introduction, but i admit they influenced this performance.
