i like the way this song is working out, but you might not be able to hear it since i'm still having trouble with "mp3s" and "software". maybe you can play the windows media audio file till i get smarter. i think i'd like to make it a duet... make the overlapping lines into a bit of a dialogue... i didn't practice the higher vocal till i recorded it, so that was a stretch.
i'll probably refine a lot of the lyrics and the structure, as they just kinda grew out haphazardly while i sang the repeated line over and over and over. i have in mind the balance between "you don't need to reinvent the wheel" and "you only learn by trying (and seeing what works)". seen through the eyes of two people goin' down them same hard roads that we all gotta go down. shucks.
We all reinvent the Wheel
can't make good time breaking trail
the high road is for breaking down
you can't change the way you feel
i can't break the speed of sound
you took off around the bend
i took note a bit too late
thought that this would never end
you just couldn't stand to wait
we been out here way too long
long enough to see it through
wish that you weren't quite so strong
wish that i was more like you
if that bird don't sing
if that sun don't shine
if that diamond ring
doesn't end up mine
after we get through
when it all goes down
we can say we knew
wheels would turn around
we can take the wheel
ride it into town
we can say we knew
wheels go round and round
this has all been done before
stencils on a beaten path
losing sight of other shores
postcards from the aftermath
shuffle cuz it's time to deal
everybody knows the game
you can't change the way you feel
someday you may feel the same
we all reinvent the wheel
we all reinvent the wheel
we all reinvent the wheel
we all reinvent the wheel
ad nauseum

i found the WMA file of this song (you should create a link to it from the entry). This is a really infectious song, and the ending if fabulous. just fabulous. and "postcards from the aftermath" -- great line.
i do have a critique though: the middle verse it gets a bit annoying somewhere after "wheels would turn around." i dunno what you could do... 'cos i like the next 4 lines, but it's kinda overload after a while.

okay. i added the WMA link. the files are at my fireball webpage. i made a couple attempts to convert to MP3 but failed. i'll keep trying.
i'm definitely accepting all critiques of the lyrics... i really just fawm-forced some words so that i could get to that ending. but, a few good lines came out of it. after the first week, "postcards from the aftermath" is the leading candidate for my february album title.
