Song #5: Each Day Is Better Than The Next
MP3 Demo - Download the neurotic thing here (1.4mb)

For some reason I was really irritable this evening (just ask my poor wife). Maybe it was that wacky spaghetti with suspicious "pepperoni and cream-of-mushroom based white sauce" I made for dinner, but I was just in a bad mood. I couldn't read. I couldn't study. To make matters worse, I lost my favorite guitar pick. I was behind in FAWM-ing. Ah-ha! I thought. But wait! So I just spit this fast, crappy little country-billy ditty out as a stress reliever. It turned out better than I thought (only about 20 minutes recording time). At first I figured I'd just count it toward my 14 songs but never go anywhere with it, but I might work out a solo and add another verse. Opinions?

Each Day Is Better Than The Next
lyrics/music by Burr Settles

now I lay me down to sleep
I pray to God something makes me
feel not quite so blunt
turn me on just to piss me off
I start and stop like a narcoleptic
bloodhound on the hunt

and I feel
like each day's better than the next
I wallow around in my own muck
I'll spin the wheel
more and more is less and less
but I digress
everything sucks

if I could walk a mile in your shoes
I guarantee I'd feel just as
lame as I do in mine
'cos all I feel like I wanna do
is pity my sorry self, pitch a hissy fit,
bitch, and whine

and I feel
like each day's better than the next
I wallow around in my own muck
I'll spin the wheel
more and more is less and less
but I digress
everything sucks

so what the...?

maybe it should be "but i confess" instead of "i digress"?? i just wrote a rhyme for "less." could have been "dress" or "chess" or "freedom of the press" as far as i was concerned at the time...

i like "digress"...
or maybe "freedom of the press"...

"turn me on just to piss me off" is a great line. and the harmony and arrangement are nice. a fine fruit of irritability.

This is a smart little tune sounds like something Cracker would put out...has anyone heard their new country songs album?

I like it alot Burr, I think with better production and some pedal steel and some more focused vocal takes this would be one foot stomping little ditty that would get stuck in my head.

I love the line: if I could walk a mile in your shoes
I guarantee I'd feel just as
lame as I do in mine

And the ending...ha ha ha...fantastic!
