Well, this is my submission for the "shine" assignment. Seeing as how it's Valentine's Day and all, I decided to write a love song for my wife... in fact, it's my first love song ever, I think. I've written broken-hearted songs, but never love songs. Go figure. It's stripped down: just acoustic and vocals, 2 takes and an overdub for the solo. A nice Matthew Sweet/Dinosaur Jr ongoing background guitar solo there at the end... and I'm really hammering those "bop-bop-ba-dahs" in, aren't I? Happy Valentine's Day, everyone... We're almost halfway through FAWM!
Let It Shine
lyrics/music by Burr Settles
you got such a pretty face
why hide it?
shiny eyes and a smile of grace
don't try to fight it
I let you know that I want you
and I want to know you want me, too
throwin' caution to the wind
"how about Friday?"
we'll get together for coffee then
it's so exciting
totally tripping head over boots
i'm in love and in hot pursuit
you'll turn your face my way sometime
and the glow will be so sublime
so let it shine...
tell me what would it take
to win you over?
I'd go with you to the golden gate
or the Cliffs of Dover
gonna let my little light shine
and i am gonna make you mine
you'll turn your face my way sometime
and the glow will be so sublime
so let it shine...
bop-bop-ba-da-dah...
let it shine...

I like it, Burr. The vocals actually kinda remind me of Dave Grohl. (Maybe it's the effect on them)
It could use a bass line, though it stands pretty well without it.
Write more love songs, man! I'm going to try to write one for my wife before the month is over. The only other love song I've ever written was the one for my wedding.
I hope Natalie liked it. (=

whoa! ba ba ba!
I love the part where you say "SHINE!" really loud.
This does sort of sound like something Grohl would put out in lighter hearted moments.
Happy Valentine's Day to you too Burr and Natalie!
