Well, I'm back in LA after an a little jog in the southwest...played two shows in Vegas and one in Phoenix recently got in tonight. Feel really behind in my song-writing, but I have lots of inspiration for new stuff so be expecting a deluge of tunes in the near future...this song is up for interpretation...call it my answer to Burr's Challenge...if only because it has the word "shine" in the first line.

Drag Queen
Words/Music by Matt Hopper

You shine so brightly
Like a candle in the dark
Swaying so softly
Hovering round the room

I didn’t know you then
And I don’t know you now
But I feel as if you’re right
It’s a shame to hold you tight

You like white horses
Say they make you feel alive
Speaking in whispers
You can run but you can never hide

I didn’t know you then
And I don’t know you now
But I feel as if it’s wrong
To want to touch you all night long

Baby’s got a black eye from all the elbows in the darkness
She’s a light but you can never really focus
It’s a drag she’s a queen and you’re a janitor
You can try but you’ll never really get to her

So what, you can comment on "One Foot in the Grave" but look over little "Drag Queen" here?

I dig it. Interesting triplet thing in the rythym. Would require a little practice to pull off with a full band, but it would be cool. Not enough people vary up rythym, myself included.

sorry there, hopper... musically, i dig it, but i guess i get a little lost on message. perhaps "drag queen" is a misleading title... though i understand what you're getting at and it's quite clever, this one isn't as interesting as some of the others you've cranked out this month. agreed: the triplet is nice.

Drag Queen is a very misleading title, but I love how with that title it sort of twists the song into perverted territory. I had finished the song and was like, what will I call this? I saw "drag" and "queen" and was like, that would be a cool title, and then I read through the lyrics thinking about a drag queen and I was laughing to myself...gave myself a good little chuckle. Sorry, I'm so self indulgent when it comes to songs.

I like it for the fact that is the lowest I've ever sung methinks.
