Song #8: Shiner
MP3 Demo - Download Here (1.4mb)

This is actually a leftover from last week's "shine" challenge... I was going to try and write two. I got the chorus and the first verse done before that deadline, but never finished it. I think the main reason was that I haven't known anyone whose drinking problem was this violent and this regular, so I couldn't really write honestly about it. But now that it's four or five days later, I almost feel as if this song is complete and real enough as it is.

Shiner
lyrics/music by Burr Settles

I don't know what to say
when you get this way
and you won't listen to reason anymore
you can't tell who you are
unless you're at the bar
but you forget again when you wake up on the floor
dear friend, we've been here before
and you ain't foolin' no one no more
don't tell me it's alright
when I see you passed out every night
lip split wide
and a shiner in your eye

I like it...I have an affinity for short songs. You can always listen to them over if you want.

i agree, i like some short songs, too. but i like this melody and the riff so much that part of me wants to develop it more. on the other hand, it's that side of me that's kept me from even WRITING songs for the past few years, so...

better to have a piece of a song down then nothing at all...

you can always go back later when you book studio time and finish up your favorites...
