Song #9: Captain Anagram
MP3 Demo - Download Here (2.3mb)

If you take equal parts Beck and They Might Be Giants, throw in a ton of severe work-related exhaustion and merely a pinch of sleep, you have strange dreams... and write songs like this. It's been ages since I wrote a song like this. Probably for a good reason. That's about all I have to say right now.

Captain Anagram
lyrics/music by Burr Settles

Captain Anagram... he's a word-playin' mutha
he's got the mad skillz to turn one thing into another
so long as each thing has the same letters in it
he can turn a "les paul guitar" into "aural glue spit"
you think that's wack? you think it's crazy
he can "pile easy wordplay" from "yellow paper daisy"?
it's strange to rearrange all the letters
so to use his superpowers you gots to be clever

Captain Anagram (a car taping a man)
Captain Anagram (tan pagan air cam)

yo yo yo! (oy oy oy!)

now Doctor Palindrome... he is the arch nemisis
and little "Evil-Olive" is his tiny side-kick
together they try to make the world go backward
'cause backward would be forward if we're under their attack (word)
their theiving scheme was of utmost concern
they'd use the "resale laser" to get goods returned
but our captain saved the day, or so the story is told:
he turned that "Doctor Palindrome" into "Incorporated mold"

Captain Anagram (gap in catamaran)
Captain Anagram (I am pagan art-can)

saving the world one word game at a time
low-deviation tango's warmhearted gem
oh wow! demonstrate negative madrigal!
anagramma ad nauseum...

I FUCKING LOVE IT! You should see my grin right now...in fact, I laughed outloud. This song rules. It's very refreshing to hear something like this, especially after wading through all my bummed out tunes.

I wrote this the other night in about a half-hour, and recorded it last night in about an hour. I think I might be the least musically consistent songwriter involved with FAWM this year. I mean, "No for an Answer" to "Let it Shine" to this? But it felt good to write something silly (yet coherent). It's been a while.

absolutely brilliant. i'd like to make my comment an anagram, but i ain't the captain, and i'm tired...

Burr, when's the last time you were told you rock! Cuz you do!

This song is too cool!
