This song is my version of a Bruce Springsteen / Dan Bern type song...I wrote it pretty quickly tonight when I got home from work. I'm gonna shoot for 8 more songs this month. I am also reading a good book called "Songwriters on Songwriting" and I'm only one chapter in...but it's great so far. I need to go out and get some inspiration tomorrow night...gonna go see this band called the Waking Hours at the Brewery...they rock.
Wayward Prince
Words/Music by Matt Hopper
This is a song about a wayward prince
He left town for rock and roll
Snuck into the trailer of a gypsy band
And they put makeup on his face
Made him dance in leather and lace
Oh my lord he’s twenty three
Got an itch for living by the sea
He left fortune he left fame
Grew out his hair and changed his name
Wished that he’d never be seen again
I do admire you for doing what you do
Looking for change when nothing else will do
Fill my mind up with stories of people
who feel the way you do made it their mission
to never give in and lift their middle finger to the man
these are my kind of people, amen
And wayward prince met himself a woman
Wounded his heart scared his eye
She left town with another guy
And he would admit made him feel mad
But he would also say it wasn’t that bad
Cause wayward price could never forget
That he never lived in regret
He felt life was an experience
Once you go down you could bust
But sometimes you get to meet one of us…
I do admire you for doing what you do
Looking for change when nothing else will do
Fill my mind up with stories of people
who feel the way you do made it their mission
to never give in and lift their middle finger to the man
these are my kind of people, amen

amen.
i like how each verse has a different rhyme scheme... it doesn't really stand out as much as you'd think. the instrumentation for this would be a little weird, though because i don't think it'd sound right with a full band, but it needs more than just acoustic. hmmm...

I imagine it delivered in a loose Bob Dylan way or the way Dan Bern does things...have you heard Dan Bern? Man, he's totally awesome. Check him out sometime.
