Song #16 The Desert Loses Touch
Download MP3 Here!I woke up feeling a little under the weather and after awhile I made the decision to go back to bed, I'm sick. After watching "Lost In Translation" and catching a little shut eye I felt the urge to write. You see, it's been raining HARD here in California for the past two days. Last night we went out for a friends birthday and it was just pouring rain on us. So it starts out pretty autobiographical...then I try to lend some sort of meaning in the chorus. I don't think this is my best song or even if I want to sing so high on the chorus (i'm wondering if I could nail it if I wasn't sick?) but give me your thoughts...

The Desert Loses Touch
Words/Music by Matt Hopper

D
I’m sick
A G
I stayed in bed all day
I never left the house
And it’s quiet as a pillow
Bm
Except for the rain
Falling down outside these walls
Em
It’s raining so hard here in California
D
I didn’t know the desert cried so much
Em
I didn’t know the desert loses touch
Bm A G
I didn’t know that sometimes it knows what it’s like to be alone

And everyone is searching
Looking for a better way
Some look for ways to please themselves
Some look for ways to please others
Some are out to look for clues
Better clues to attract lovers

C G
But everytime there’s a silver lining
Am Em
Covering you hovering over
And you’ll get better soon
If you have time to wait

i like it. i think your songwriting is improving even over the course of the month. the chorus really is the best part... kind of achey, and those high notes are actually the key. the bridge is nice but feels a little out of place to me (not lyrically but musically).

Thanks Burr, I feel alot more comfortable combining melodies and chords these days...something about constant repetition, it gets easier and easier. These songs were all written so fast...they just sort of flow out.

About this bridge...it's weird I know, but I was intrigues by changing keys...the first part of the song is based in the key of G, then it shifts down to the key of F after the bridge...kinda interesting, at least to me. It is a weird bridge, I'm gonna live with it for awhile and see if it bugs me after repeated listens.
