numero 9 - spit shine WMA file here
again... a bit rushed. i like some of this, but it's far from ripe.
not a goofy song, anyway... or not meant to be... a bit amorphous right now.

this is the third song i recorded between 10 pm and 5 am this morning,
and i was not being very particular with arrangements. time may change these...

spit shine

sometimes it's hard to learn the lessons of all our yesterdays
i have followed backstreet prophets down some blind alleyways
something falls by the wayside, and the wayside's where it stays
   gotta find a way
   to keep movin on
sometimes it's hard to know what's going down behind the wonderwall
i have loitered where the shadows pour down like a waterfall
when a man falls in the darkness and nobody sees him fall
   nobody knows
   that he's gone

johnny puma would ya spit shine my walkin shoes
the choice ain't what it used to be, but i'm still gonna choose
gonna find a way to slip some shine into these backalley blues

sometimes it's easy to forget that there are worse places than here
every pain and every burden could be something more severe
fall down into darkness and quickly disappear
   who's gonna know
   that you're gone
sometimes it's easy to forget that there might be a better way
sometimes it's hard to learn the lessons from yet another yesterday
you fall down by the wayside, and the wayside's where you stay
   gotta find a way
   to keep movin on

johnny puma would you spit shine my walkin shoes
i've travelled down some hard roads and i've paid a lot of dues
gonna find a way to slip some shine into these backalley blues

It's rough but I like this one...the intensity in your voice is very convincing. The intro is great, I wish it were louder.

i agree that this one is rough, but it would be a fun one, especially live. it's nice to have you aboard this project, willis. your music style i think is consistent and unique from the rest of us in the retro way that i can't quite put my finger on... your melodies sometimes take some turns that i can't quite predict, which is always nice.

burr [12:04AM CST 24-Feb-2004]

hey, i'm hip. duk-a-duk-a-duk-a-duk-a-duk...

you know, i'm mr. alternative in the folkie scene here... (i think i am anyway)... this project is great for some perspective. i imagine myself being all over the map for influences, but my stuff does come out very... consistent.

burr's comment on CAPTAIN ANAGRAM was funny. i thought "inconsistent" was a understated word for what should've been "diverse" or "versatile".

if there were many more people on the fawm, i wouldn't have time to listen to their stuff...

willis [07:11PM CST 24-Feb-2004]

Yeah, I think next year we should encourage casual onlookers to do the comments...although I don't mind and love listening to each song and making a comment.

hopper [09:27PM CST 24-Feb-2004]

oh yeah, i'm totally enjoying listening to all the songs... i just don't have too much time to kick back and soak 'em all in.

willis [10:03PM CST 24-Feb-2004]

You'll have the rest of your life to enjoy these songs...kick back on March 1st...we'll have to have a FAWM awards ceremony or something...
