gold is a pretty tired alaska topic, and i didn't really grab it and shake it up, either, although i meant to do so. still, i like some of them classic gold rush tunes that get tossed around for the tourists. and does my bio mention that i like robert service, the bard of the north?
my original intention was to alternate the verses of this song with something much rockiner,
but i ran out of time...
climate change... how i learned to love the bomb... etc.
special thanks to h.b. telling for totally butting in and reading over my shoulder while i was writing this at the KELSA show last night. he said...
"veins all mined" > "veins are mined"
punk
gold
the gold's gettin harder to find
placer's gone, the veins all mined
squintin for a part per billion make a poor girl blind
the gold's gettin harder to find
the oil is about to run dry
the pipeline's dyin as the days go by
pissed away our good good fortune time to cry cry cry
the oil is about to run dry
the fish ain't what they used to be
tired rivers crawlin down to the sea
arctic biomagnification fills my dinner with mercury
the fish ain't what they used to be
the girls are gettin' harder to please
the milk and honey is startin to freeze
more and more of them and less and less juice so it's tease tease tease
the girls are gettin harder to please
the truth is gettin harder to find
lies risin since the good news declined
suddenly the path to promised land seems kinda ill-defined
the truth is gettin harder to find
the gold is gettin harder to find
placer's gone, the veins all mined
squintin for a part per billion make a poor girl blind
the gold is gettin harder to find

this one is pretty dark funny, actually. i know nothing about alaska and gold up there and stuff, but i was amused.

alaska is going through a budgetary crisis right now. the government costs way more than its income, mostly since we have no income tax and have depended on oil revenues for almost 30 years.
quandaries about resource development in the last frontier.

Good tunes Willis. Try capoing it up a little cause it sounds like you are singing very low in your range...it might sound a little more natural up a couple of frets. It's a nice bouncy little tune...some good lines...nice that HB lent a hand :)
I hear they want to lump sum out the dividend??? If that is so I better get my ass back up there because missing out on a free $45K or so would really tweak me out.

i'm at a 7 or 8 hour event about balancing alaska's budget right now. i'm sort of listening, but mostly finishing the words to my last songs, which i'll record as soon as they stop talking... taxes... oil... revenues... regressive... market value...
