Song #13 Ode to Homebrew

This song is an ode to one of my hobbies, which is brewing beer.

It is a lot of work, but it's fun and what hobbies are there that net you 2 cases of beer at the end?

It's a little silly country riff, but it details basically all the steps in brewing your own. The alternate title was "Everything you wanted to know about making beer but were afraid to ask".

Ode to Homebrew

Start with some water
And put in a pot
Then you add some barley malt
Cook it till it’s hot
Then you add some hops
And boil the wort in makes
Keep it hot and boiling
Till the foam breaks

Once your wort is finished
You need to cool it quick
A tub full of ice
That’ll do the trick
Pour it in your carboy
Add in ready yeast
Cap it off and seal it
For a week at least

Brew your own
Brew your own
Brew your own beer
Drink it if it’s cloudy
Drink it if it’s clear
Hoist a glass to the boys
And share a toasty cheer
There’s nothing quite like
Brewing your own beer

Soon it starts to bubble
And kicks out CO2
When it stops moving
You’ll know what to do
Transfer to some bottles
And cap them up real tight
Make sure to add some sugar
To carbonate them right

Age them for a week
In a cool dark spot
Don’t let the sunlight in
Don’t let them get real hot
And when it’s ready
You’re goal is very near
Take a sip from the glass
Of your very own beer

Some get them from a cooler
Or a sixer from the shelf
Some get it from the tap
Like everybody else
They’re all so good and tasty
It’s hard to pick the best
But a beer that you brew yourself
Tastes better than the rest

I'm downloading the tune right now Eric, but based on your lyrics, I think I could start brewing my own tonight...it sounds that easy! Sweet! Hey, send me a six pack of DISTAD ALE if you have any extra, I'd love to try it!!!

I'm planning to make a Scottish Wee-Heavy. It is usually refered to as an 80-shilling ale, which means the Alc Content is on the high side, like an Old Peculiar, if you've ever had that. Kinda heavy, sorta sweet, kinda dark, sorta-leaveyouonthefloorbeforeyouknowwhathityou. You know.. the good kind.

If any of you guys are in MN, stop by for one. (I'd send you some Hopper, but they have issues with transporting pressurized bottles and exporting alcohol out of state, and so on... If I can find I way, I will. (= )

It's a funny song. Do you hum it when brewing beer?
