Downhill Ski Hills:
Remember that skill levels in the midwest are measured differently than those in the mountains. A double black diamond in the midwest is generally only a black diamond in the mountains. These hills are rated by Midwestern standards. 
Wisconsin   Upper Michigan   Minnesota  
Wisconsin:
Cascade Mountain - About 30 runs, more geared toward beginner to intermediate skiers.
Devil's Head Resort - About 30 runs, more geared toward intermediate to advanced skiers. Good terrain and moguls. Hotel and cafeteria on site.
Rib Mountain - 12 runs, beginner to expert skiers. 2nd highest vertical drop in the Midwest.
Grand Geneva - Grand Geneva Spa & Resort. 12 runs, 211' vertical drop. Never been there.
Tyrol Basin - 12 runs, about a 300' vertical drop. excellent terrain--half pipe, jumps, and moguls.
Sunburst - about 9 runs.
Trollhaugen - 22 runs, 260' vertical drop. Located in the FAR NORTHWEST corner of Wisconsin.(Dresser)
Wilmot Mountain - 25 runs, near Chicago. Wilmot is near the WI/IL border.
Whitecap Mountains - 35 runs, 3 mountains. Located near Montreal.
Mount LaCrosse - 18 runs, 516 foot vertical drop. Located just outside LaCrosse, Wisconsin
Alpine Valley Resort - 388 ft vertical drop, 12 trails. Right beside the music hall where Aerosmith and other bands perform. Located just outside East Troy, Wisconsin
Christie Mountain - 350 ft vertical drop, 14 lighted trails. Located in Bruce, Wisconsin
Little Switzerland - 15 trails. Located in Slinger, Wisconsin
Nordic Mountain - 14 trails. Located in Mt. Morris, Wisconsin

Upper Michigan:
IndianHead Mountain - 22 runs, 9 lifts and tows, 638' vertical drop. Located inbetween Ironwood and Wakefield.
Big Powderhorn Mountain - 25 runs, 10 lifts and tows. Located inbetween Bessemer and Ironwood.
Blackjack Mountain - 465 ft vertical drop, 20 trails. Located in Bessemer, Michigan
Mount Ripley - 423 ft vertical drop, 12 trails. This hill is run by Michigan Tech. University, and is best for more advanced skiers. Also, Houghton has a lot of local history. Located in Houghton, Michigan
Ski Brule - about 17 runs, 12 lifts and tows, Located by Iron River.
Norway Mountain - 500 ft vertical drop, 14 trails. Located in Norway, Michigan

Minnesota:
Lutsen Mountains - 72 runs, 4 mountains. Location: Lutsen, of course.
Afton Alps - 40 runs, 18 lifts. Location: Hastings, Minnesota.
Andes Tower Hills - 15 runs, 2 lifts. They also have cross-country skiing. Location: Kensington, Minnesota.
Buena Vista Ski Area - 15 runs, 4 lifts, 230 ft vertical drop. They also have cross-country skiing. Location: Bemidji, Minnesota.
Giants Ridge Ski Resort - 34 runs, 5 lifts, 500 ft vertical drop. They also have cross-country skiing. Location is near Wynne Lake, Minnesota.
