Old News

Updated a few things that were becoming very out-dated, almost to an embarrassing extent.

I think that I'm becoming European. This is odd in that I've never been to Europe. However, I'm starting to use the European format for almost everything. Dates, times, and monetary amounts come to mind. Why do we use M/D/Y format, when that isn't even remotely in size-order. Why do we prefix dollar amounts with the currency sign when we write them, but postfix the number with "dollars" when we speak? It's all very strange.

Created proper RCS repositories for my webpage. Now I don't have to worry about forgetting to change the last updated date anymore. Some of the older pages show today's date for the most recent update. I guess I should go update them, so that it isn't a lie.

Wow, it's been a while. All I did today was update sections on my courses that really needed updating. I also added a few sections on spam filtering and using iptables over the summer, but neglected to put down a news item for them. Classes start today. This is my last semester, and it is going to be interesting. I'm looking forward to finding a job, but I'm not looking forward to looking for one.

I've been kind of occupied for the past few months. Summer was just a big heaping load of work that didn't really stop to breathe, and now school isn't much different. But that's okay, I learn more this way, right?

The big news for today is that now the page is HTML 4.01 compliant. Every web page should be (how are people supposed to read it, if it doesn't speak the correct language), and few actually are. Microsoft doesn't help the issue by writing not only a web browser which ignores published standards, but their web pages ignore these too. Try clicking on the validator link in the menu, and put in www.microsoft.com. It's just scary, after telling the validator what kind of document it is even supposed to be, I get something on the order of 200 errors.

Updated the course descriptions, and added descriptions for the courses I just finished. Deleted the no longer applicable schedule.

Thursday, 22 Mar 2001

Updated some of the page banners, all cosmetic changes. For some reason I have the patience to add fluff to the page, but not to add content. Oh well. Someday I will learn.

Wednesday, 3 Jan 2001

Updated course descriptions.

Ok, now the scripts are tested, and I know that they work, and I promise not to spam any more news items up about nothing.

On the bright side, now that I have this system in place, I'll be posting news a lot more often.

Thursday, 31 Aug 2000

One more try.

Thursday, 31 Aug 2000

Hopefully, I have the update scripts working correctly now.

Only time will tell.

Changed a few things about the way I maintain the page. Now the index and news pages are auto generated by a set of shell scripts. It should look the same, but it's a lot easier for me to change without headache.

If you see anything dumb looking on those pages, this is probably way, and please tell me of it.

Wednesday, 30 Aug 2000

Well, it's the beginning of a new semester, so time for the page to actually start being active again.

Lot of changes for me lately. This is the first year that I'm not living in a dorm. Not sure if I like the idea of possibly being stuck as the dish boy for myself and three other little children's. On the bright side, we have our own kitchen, our own bathroom, air conditioning... I like it.

Lately getting books has been one of those things that just seems to not happen for me lately. I've been sleeping past when the bookstore closes for the past week. Yes, it is as impressive as you think it is. Tomorrow I will get them. I'll have to.

Other than that... waiting for classes to start.

Any one who visited the page yesterday probably noticed that it had become hideous. Proof, I suppose, that the best of design intentions don't make up for a stupid idea. I had been trying to get some sort of tree layout for the menu, and the one that I had wasn't dynamic enough for me. I should have known better than to mess with a simple layout that worked. Anyway, the old layout is back now. Along with an 'old news' section. I plan to add an 'old quotes' section as well at some point, though it would require me to grab some more random quotations. Anyway, It's two am now, and I'm going to go to sleep.

Thursday, 11 May 2000

Changed the layout of the page rather drastically today. Didn't add much in the process though. I expect to rather soon, being that it is finals week, and I'm going insane.

Friday, 24 Mar 2000

Added the oddities section. Give it a look, comments are welcome.

Monday, 06 Mar 2000

My rabid fans will have noticed that the first link under the 02 Feb news was broken. The fix is here. I've also added a link to Jess Kruse's page, which I think you should all go visit. That and a bunch of exams are all that's new around here. My grow a social life project seems to be a failure so far.

Thursday, 23 Feb 2000

Minor updates today. Added my pgp key to the connectivity section. Fixed the dates on the news section to be in the sane format. That was it. Sorry I'm not more exciting, but exams started last week.

Thursday, 03 Feb 2000

Depressing news on the CSS front, available here.

I added some pictures to my picture page. Now the pluralization of the name is appropriate, as some have mentioned.

Wednesday, 02 Feb 2000

This is going to be brief. Sorry I haven't kept up more with the page, but intellectual duty calls. On that note, go here(dead) and here. Thank you.

Thursday, 27 Jan 2000

All I actually did today was change the quote of the day, but I thought I should put something up in the way of warning. Some of my screaming fans (you know, out of that group of thousands) have said stuff to me about how the page hasn't changed much since the weekend. That's pretty much to be expected, now that classes are going. I'll try to keep it updated at least weekly, but I doubt that I'm going to be putting a great deal of time into it for a while at least.

Monday, 24 Jan 2000

I had signed up for some 900 level courses, for no credit, to take to see if they would be interesting. Well, I went to a few of them today, and I barely understood what was said. No, there are no prerequisites for those courses, but they do assume that if you walk in the door, you know more than I do about the subject matter that they were discussing. Maybe I'll go back to some of those courses later on, when I do actually have some physics background. For the time being, however, I can better budget my time with studying and the like.

I am starting to become distinctly not-fond of ramen noodles.

I got information back from the person who's dragon art is on my menu bar. As long as I don't start charging all of you to come view my site, it's kosher. I'm going to add a link to the website that I got the pic off of, as soon as I can find it again with the search engine or metacrawler of my choice.

Sunday, 23 Jan 2000

More updates. Added the dragon icon (hope it's not a copyright violation or anything nasty like that.) Added a section about my fam.

Saturday, 22 Jan 2000

Did a few more updates to the page today. Made it framed, filled in some of the course comments, fixed some borked links.

Went out and bought books today. I was hit for ~480. I never knew till today that I was taking a class on electromagnetism. :-) None of my 9xx level course require books, so that's nice. I still got notebooks for them though. I have 10 new notebooks right now. People like me lead to deforestation. Oh well, all in the pursuit of knowledge, right?

Friday, 21 Jan 2000

Classes here start on Monday, they should be interesting and new. I'm carrying 18 credits amongst 10 classes for the upcoming semester. I put myself in strange things like intro to plasma physics, just for kicks. Here, you can register for some of the higher level courses for 0 credit, and basically just take them for fun. Being that I never manage to make time to do anything that enriches me outside of classes, I decided on this iteration to see if I could enrich myself with more classes. We shall see if it's a good idea or suicide.

I need still to get books. This might be a bad thing, but we shall see.
