• Useful Java Reference Sheet, courtesy of our friends at Princeton. Note that this covers a lot we haven't gotten to yet. Also, you'll have to ignore the parts about "Our standard XXX library," since I think this is talking about some non-standard library they provide for their introductory CS course.

• CodeLab Assignment 1 Posted. See the CodeLab page for details. Remember that this is not required, but you can earn extra credit. Also, the bulk of CodeLab assignments will be during the early chapters of the book, so use it now if you want to get the full credit.

• CS 302 Lab Sections will be held starting Tuesday, 1/31.
• WES-CS Sections will be held starting Tuesday, 1/24, for those enrolled in WES-CS.

Readings and Code Samples

See the main course syllabus for a schedule of readings. I recommend that you complete the readings for each week by the time of our Friday lecture, since we will often do in-class exercises on Fridays.

Week 3

• Code sample: DaysInMonth.java (computes the days in a given month)
• Code sample: TriangleClassification.java (distinguishes between different types of triangle)
• Code sample: TotalMess.java (a program that runs but is impossible to read. Please avoid submitting code like this.)

Week 2

• Code sample: NextSsn.java (parses and formats social security numbers)
• Code sample: QuadraticFormula.java (solves quadratic equations)
• Code sample: Calculator.java (simple +-*/ calculator, with nice error handling for malicious user input)

Week 1

• Code sample: TemperatureConversion.java (Fahrenheit to Celsius converter)
• Code sample: HopeAndChange.java (gives change in U.S. coins)
