Why Study Computer Science?

The Wisconsin Idea Project

The Wisconsin Idea, as it applies to education, is the responsibility of Students, Faculty, and Staff to give back to the State of Wisconsin which funds the University of Wisconsin System. This responsibility includes sharing the education and research obtained in the University system with as many citizens of Wisconsin as possible.

Topic

Our topic is an introduction to the field of Computer Science. Not the first things you learn in an intro course, but why prospective students should be interested in the field. Our hope is to inspire students to realize the benefits of computer science whether it be for their major or how it can enhance their current field of study.

What's next?

Our group feels given our limited time and resources we put together a meaningful video that will inspire prospective students to take the leap and enroll in a CS course. However, had we had more time we would have liked to interview some professors as well as more students. The focus of this video is also more why CS is beneficial in supplementing anyone's education, we would have liked to spend more time focusing on the long term benefits of recieving a Computer Science degree (job placement, competetive salaries, real projects/jobs undergraduates secure upon graduation).
