About Me

PhD Student @ University of Wisconsin-Madison

Ce is currently a PhD student in Computer Sciences Department, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is working with Dr. Christopher Ré for problems related to data management and database system. Specially, he is interested in understanding how to build a general platform for the next generation of analytics model, which is probabilistics, Web-scale, and declarative to the developers. Before joining UW, he obtained his B. S. degree at Peking University (China) advised by Dr. Bin Cui. His past research forcused on how to manage multimedia information in Web 2.0 environment.

Projects

Pushing statistical analytics to domain experts!

GeoDeepDive

GeoDeepDive is the follow-up work of DeepDive, which tries to extract "dark" geological data from geology research papers. GeoDeepDive extracts rock formations and measurements from more than 40K papers, and answers queries like "how many carbon are there in Wisconsin?". This is the joint work with Vidhya Govindaraju, Christopher Ré, and our geologist collaborator Shanan Peters.

DeepDive

DeepDive is an encyclopedia by the machines, for the people! DeepDive extracts relationships between persons, locations, organizations, and tries to enrich Wikipdia. DeepDive runs extractors over hundres of millions of Web pages, and hundreds of thousands of YouTube videos. This is the joint work with Feng Niu, Christopher Ré, and Jude Shavlik.

Tuffy/Felix

Tuffy and Felix are scalable inference engines for Markov logic network (MLN). Tuffy scales up MLN grounding with SQL and search with graph partitioning. Felix introduces an operator-based perspecitve into the inference of Markov Logic, which is inspired by the classic textbook RDBMS. Felix highlights a compilier, an optimizer, and a parallelized executor. They are the joint work with Feng Niu, Christopher Ré and Jude Shavlik.
