Below is a link to a very good tutorial on how to custom layout an inverter and then to use two instances of your inverter to create a two inverter buffer circuit.  However this tutorial was made using design rules from an older process.  Using the design rules for the .5 micron process, your design will turn out a little different.  For example you will find that you aren't permitted to have as many M1 contacts to the active regions has the pictures show.  Here is a link to the tutorial.
