When: Friday October 6, 2006 (not 2005)
Where: Monona Terrace Convention Center
Why: To celebrate 30 years of contributions to the database field through research and education.
Who: This event is being organized by Mike Carey, David DeWitt, Yannis Ioannidis, Miron Livny, Jeff Naughton, Raghu Ramakrishnan, and Marvin Solomon. If you are a former UW student with strong connections to the database field in academia or industry you are invited. Attendance will be limited to 250 attendees so that we can fit in the auditorium at Monona Terrace. The reason that we are planning it more than a year in advance is so that you can put it on your calendar NOW. This will be a unique event that you won't want to miss.
Cost: This event is free. We will provide all meals, breaks, and a cocktail party. You will need to pay your own airfare and accommodations.
Agenda: It is far too early to set an agenda but we plan on a full day of talks by current and former students and faculty. If you would like to talk or organize a panel send one of us email. After dinner you will be given the chance to roast your former teachers/advisors. There will be prizes for the most outrageous roasts.
Accommodations: We strongly recommend that you stay at the Hilton that is attached to the Monona TerraceConvention Center. Their phone number is 608-255-5100 or toll free at 1-866-403-8838. Please use this toll free number and not the national toll free number for Hilton. This will avoid any confusion for all involved. Since there is a home football game on October 7th hotel space in Madison will be very tight. Mention "Wisconsin DB" when making your reservation to receive the special rate we have negotiated.
Registration: To help us plan this event please register now. There is no charge to register or attend.
