Who am I
I've just got my PhD in Database Systems, from Computer Sciences Department at University of Wisconsin-Madison and moved to Microsoft. Before coming to beautiful UW, I studied Computer Science at Peking University, one of the best science and literature universities in China, receiving my M.S. and B.S.   in 1999 and 1996 respectively.

There are several lakes in the process of my growing up. Born in Gejiu, Yunnan, I spent my childhood by Golden Lake, which occupied nearly one fourth the total area of our small and clean mountain city. Then 3,000 kilometers away, I went to another lake -- Lake Weiming, which means unnamed. It is a small lake in the campus of Peking University. In the summer, blue sky, white clouds, graceful light green willow trees around the bank, together with their reflections in the water, lake Weiming is a poem. In the winter, water frozen, it becomes the best place for ice skating. Five years ago, even more far away, from the other end of the Pacific Ocean, I came to Madison, a totally strange town then, yet a home now. I enjoy sitting on the beach of Lake Mendota at dusk, wild ducks playing under the sunset glow.

Travel
I like to travel. This may due to the name my father gave me. Hongfei, in Chinese it means to fly as high and far away as a swan goose does. I like Europe. Similar to China, every city is full of history and culture; yet with more fortune, they survived human "evolution". I've been to a few countries in Europe: Belgium, France, Netherlands, Germany, France, Greece, Norway and England. In US, I love the national parks, which are full of wonders of the Nature: Mountains, glacier, lakes, rivers, forests, canyons and much more -- all telling mysterious and awing legends of the ancient Earth.

Reading
I enjoy reading. I love Chinese classical poems, essays and novels. My most favorite includes Hong Lou Meng (The Legend of the Stone) and Liao Zhai Zhi Yi (The Legend of Liao Zhai). My favorite modern authors include Zhang Ai Lin and Li Bi Hua. I also like Xu Xu, Ni Kuang and Yi Shu. My resent favorite booklist include: Harry Potter from J.K. Rowling, Lord of the Ring and Hobbits from J.R.R. Tolkien, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy from Douglas Adams, Good Omen from Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, They Marched into Sunlight: War and Peace in Vietnam and America from David Maraniss. I also like The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Devils . But unlike other people, I like them as two well written informative travel guides.

Sports
I like all kinds of sports: badminton, Ping-Pong, volleyball, squash etc.. I also like hiking and swimming. I had been a member of the UW Aikido Club for one and a half years. Currently, I am doing aerobics, Yoga and Pilates routinely.

Dancing
Compared to other things, dancing is not merely a hobby to me; it is part of my life. My dance training started at the age of 4. In junior high school, I won school-level first prize for solo dance competition. In senior high school, I won city-level first prize in Youth solo dance competition. In Peking University, I was a member of the Students Chinese Folk Dance Group. As a Cultural Exchange Program, our group visited the University of Hawaii in 1996. The beautiful islands, the friendship of our local hosts, together with the happy time spent with my fellow dancers is always a piece of memory dear to my heart.

In UW, I managed to take 16 credits in technical classes (Ballet, Jazz, Modern and Chinese Opera dance etc.) from the Dance Program Department, and took part in many performances. I am proud of dancing in Spirit Rising in the Artist of the Future Concert ¡ª Overture Center for the Arts Grand Opening Festival , Sep. 20, 2004, Overture Center, Madison, WI ( Review from The Capital Times ). I like the comments Ms. Collette Steward, my Modern Dance Technique teacher in UW, wrote about me, "...When I watch you dance, I get the feeling that the movement opens and frees your spirit - which is beautiful to see. I think dance in its purest form is simply about joy and you seem to embody that."
