If you cannot make it to the midterm (e.g. due to another exam, urgent matters, etc.), please email me as soon as possible.
Due to popular request, midterm review will be hold on Sunday, October 19th, 3 - 5 pm, in 1325 CS
Please bring questions to the midterm review. Better, please email me your questions ahead of time.
The purpose of the midterm is for you to understand important concepts in Operating System. Hence, rather than forcing you to memorize everything, I prefer you to memorize only the important parts. To assist your midterm preparation, I will point out items that will be surely excluded in the midterm. Specifically, I have created another version of all the slides and marked excluded items in lightgray font.
You can get these slides here: http://pages.cs.wisc.edu/~haryadi/537/midterm/slides/
All items colored in lightgray will not be covered in the midterm. So if you have a time constraint, you can simply skip all the gray items. Hope this will save you some time, and you can use the time to study more in-depth the main concepts.
Some slides might not have a thorough explanation on a given topic. If you would like me to give you more explanations on a particular topic, please send me an email with this format in the body of the email:
Lecture # Slide # Bullet # Short note: Please explain more about bla bla bla ...
If possible, please go through the slides now, and send emails early! If I receive more than 10 emails 2 days before the midterm, I cannot guarantee that I will have sufficient time to respond to your request.
Here are some old exams given in Prof. Arpaci-Dusseau's classes in the past. Some questions are not apropos (i.e., we haven't covered threads or synchronization yet). Please just practice with the questions related to what we have covered in class.
