Jesuitenkirche

This church was the center of the movement to bring Catholicism back into Vienna. Ferdinand II was unhappy that his country was mostly Protestant so he asked the Jesuits to spread Catholicism. This church was built near the University where the Jesuits began to dominate the curriculum. The outside of the church seems very simple, but the inside is as spectacular, if not more so, than any of the churches I've seen thus far.

The front of the church. The twin spires for which the church is known for. More of the front of the church. Looking into the church from the entrance. Notice the curved marble columns along each side of the room. The dominant art piece of the room.
Pozzo, a Jesuit lay brother, was a specialist in trompe l'oeil frescoes. Thus the ceiling of the church is covered with them. The Pulpit of Truth, inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl. The organ.
