Michaelerkirche

Michaelerkirche sits directly opposite St Michael Gate at the Hofburg Complex. It was once the Parish Church of the Court. Like most old stuctures in Vienna, the building grew over time but parts of it date back to the 13th century. Unfortunately, I didn't go into the crypts. It was too late in the day. Supposedly the crypts are something to see. They still look as they did in the Middle Ages. There are bones all over the walls and floor, and finely dressed, well-preserved corpses can still be seen in a number of open coffins. Maybe I'll have a chance to go back.

The front of the church. Its current facade was done in a neoclassical style in the 1700s. The church looking in from the front. The alter. Details of The Collapse of the Angels, supposedly the last major Baroque work completed in Vienna. I found this work amazing to see in person. More of The Collapse of the Angels.
The Organ. If anyone has any idea what this is (other than a bricked-in entranceway), let me know. It looked interesting. There was a sign in German next to it, but I don't know what it said. Maybe a tomb of some sort!?! The pulpit.
