Biography

Hyunwoo J. Kim is an assistant professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at Korea University. He is leading Machine Learning and Vision (MLV) Lab. Prior to that, he was an applied Scientist at Amazon Lab126. He earned the Ph.D. in the Department of Computer Sciences at University of Wisconsin-Madison (Ph.D. minor: statistics) under the supervision of Prof. Vikas Singh. He earned a B.S. degree and an M.S. in computer science at Korea University and Seoul National University respectively. He was an intern in the Machine Learning Analytics Team at Amazon during Summer 2013. His research interests include statistical machine learning, manifold statistics and numerical optimization for structured data with applications in computer vision and medical imaging. He is actively collaborating with the Wisconsin Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (ADRC) at UW-Madison.
