Here are some details on the exam: - It's during the usual class time, in the usual room. - It covers lecture, homework, and quizzes on chapters 5 and 6 and sections 7.1 and 7.2. - It's closed book. - It requires a calculator. - You may bring two sheets of notes (8.5" by 11"), each with writing on both sides. I recommend writing on my posted formula sheets. - I'll provide the posted tables. - I'll hold an optional question & answer review session in Psychology 113 at 4:45 on Friday, April 12 Here are some studying steps I recommend: - Solve the homework and quiz problems as they're assigned. - Read the formula sheet. Figure out any formula you don't understand by studying the lecture notes or book. Add notes to the formula sheet as needed. (Some students add a few worked examples.) - Review the lecture notes. - Solve last semester's exam. (Your exam won't be the same.) - Solve additional odd problems from the book, checking your answers in the back. - Redo old quizzes. (Adding low scores to your quiz record doesn't change your high score, which is already recorded in Learn@UW.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [ Here's an email I sent to the class: From jgillett Sat Apr 6 10:37:32 -0500 2013 Hi STAT 224 Students, While I'm glad to have tried a group-work approach to understanding power, I'm sorry to have let our schedule slip, so that I have to change what exam 2 will cover. Exam 2 will cover chapters 5 and 6 and sections 7.1 and 7.2 (but not 7.3, 7.4, or 7.5, as originally planned). This causes a few messes: Regarding the posted formula sheet, formulas under the following headings are not required for exam 2: Small Samples with Normal X and Y (section 7.3) Matched Pairs (7.4) F Test for Equality of Variances (7.5) Simple Regression (8.1) Inference on Coefficients (8.1) Inference on Mean Response (8.1) Regarding the posted tables, the last one labeled "Upper Tail Points for the F Distributions" (7.5) is not required for exam 2. (I chose not to exclude these sections from the posted pages because they will be useful in their present forms for the final exam.) Regarding the posted "last semester's exam," the following problems are not models for your exam 2 (they may still be models for your final exam): #4 (section 7.3) #8 (section 7.5) #9 (section 7.4) Here is the posted homework due next Friday: F 4/12: 6.7: 1-5,8,9 Quiz 6 7.1: 1,18,20 7.2: 4,7,15,20,21 (I'm mentioning this because there was a "..." instead of the 7.1 and 7.2 stuff for a day or two as I thought about what to do with exam 2.) All the best, John P.S. I posted filled-in notes for 6.6 and 6.7 under the "6.6" link. ]
