Description

The name Alien Rage Unlimited is a pretty precise summary of the plot premise: Humanity broke a treaty with the alien race Vorus and triggered Alien Rage. Therefore the Vorus destroyed the human settlement on a far away planet on which humans and Vorus exploited the powerful energy resource Promethium. Of course this results in Human Rage and the player takes control over the one-man-army Jack with a simple goal: killing all Vorus and destroying the planet. Because if humanity can't have Promethium (it is impossible to gather without the Vorus' gear), then no one shall! There are a few cutscenes between levels and audio recordings from the deceased to find, but overall the plot plays a minor role.

This is a first-person shooter with focus on fast shoot-outs with multiple foes. There are no special gimmicks to be found, it all accumulates to steady fire to kill the enemies first while using cover to dodge enemy fire - however, there is active cover system and the used level elements may be destroyed under fire. While all this sounds like the developer tries to bring back memories of old-school games like Quake, there are important differences akin to contemporary shooters: linear levels, automatic healing and no manual saving. Weapons are plentiful, although only three can be carried at the same time, and have secondary fire modes, e.g. the alien shotgun can override gravity. Examples for enemies are standard warriors, aliens with jetpacks, aliens with cloaking ability and eight powerful bosses. Up to a point, the composition of enemy troops is random.

Every kill and proof of skill (e.g. headshots) rewards points which can be used to unlock upgrades which improve abilities like health or weapon damage. Up to three upgrades can be active at any time (the slots also have to be unlocked with points first). Those upgrades are stored independently from the active playthrough.

Multiplayer - deathmatch or team deathmatch for 16 players - is exclusive to the Windows version.
