Description

This is the first of two episodes of Burial at Sea, the story expansion for BioShock Infinite, offered as DLC. The game follows the original game, continuing the story, but with a completely different timeline. The protagonist is still Booker DeWitt and in this game he is a well-known private investigator in the city of Rapture, right before its fall. The game does not continue in the Columbia setting of BioShock Infinite, instead, following the story, it is set in the environment of the first two BioShock games, entirely rebuilt in the new engine. He is visited by a woman called Elizabeth who asks him to look into the disappearance of a young girl called Sally. Just like in the original game Booker and Elizabeth act as a duo, while Elizabeth largely acts on her own and assists Booker. The first part of the game focuses on exploration of the environment, while the second parts focuses more on combat, but in an environment with limited resources and tighter spaces than the original game. There are again many optional areas with secrets and items encouraging exploration. There are new and returning characters. The main locations in the game are Market Street, High Street, Fontaine's Department Store and Housewares.

Booker has access to new weapons. The Air Grabber is the counterpart of the original game's Sky-Hook. It is used as a means of transportation and as a melee weapon. Other new weapons are the Hand Cannon, the Tommy Gun, a Shotgun, a Carbine (similar to the Huntsman Carbine from the original game, but with a burst of three pellets and more damage), and the Radar Range used to heat up splicers to make them explode. They are selected through a weapon wheel. The vigors have been replaced with plasmids, but have the same function. In this episode Booker has access to Bucking Bronco, Devil's Kiss, Possession and Shock Jockey. The others are not present. Old Man Winter is an entirely new one. It allows him to throw a ball of ice, freezing splicers and turning water pipes into ice bridges. When charged, it provides a stationary trap. Certain plasmids are now used in new ways to solve environment based puzzles. There is also new gear and new tears, allowing ways to bring objects from Columbia and other settings into Rapture. Entirely new is stealth execution to instantly kill unaware enemies regardless of their health. The enemies are entirely new, with different kinds of splicers, the Bouncer variant of the Big Daddy and Little Sisters.

This episode is also included in BioShock Infinite: Season Pass.
