Description

In Edge the player controls a cube in a geometric landscape consisting of platforms and moving shapes viewed from an isometric perspective. Throughout the world are prisms that the player has to pick up, although they are optional to finish a level. Each level is full of traps where the player can fall if he does not manage to roll his cube from a platform to another in the right time. After a level has been completed the player gets a rating based on how many times he has failed, the number of prisms he has picked up and how long it has taken.

One of the most important game elements is the ability to balance on the edges of cubes in the game world. By maintaining an equilibrium, it is possible to climb on top of platforms and hang on to moving objects to cross gaps. The balance is maintained by gently adjusting the cube's position. Advanced levels require a quick succession of different skills and abilities. Players are also able to transform the cube into a smaller version to traverse narrow passages.

Trivia

1001 Video Games

Edge appears in the book 1001 Video Games You Must Play Before You Die by General Editor Tony Mott.

Copyright trouble

The game was pulled for some time from the App Store because of a trademark dispute. Mobigame had to remove the game because of a legal issue with Tim Langdell from The Edge. According to David Papazian from Mobigame, Langdell said to own the name Edge as a trademark and from there the legal dispute began. Without further explanation the game eventually resurfaced with the initial title. Then it was taken down again until it came back online after in October 2009, after a few months, with the title Edge by Mobigame in the US/UK.

More information about the different disputes concerning the "Edge" trademark can be found through the related links at Tim Langdell's profile.
