Description

The PlayStation 2 party classic comes to the PS3 in an updated and network rich upgrade. Anyone that is remotely interested in 'Singstar' knows how the title operates - it turns your console into a modern day karaoke machine: Displaying the videos and music of some classic pop songs (it comes with around 30 initially), and presenting the words with which you and a few friends (or alone if that floats your boat) can accompany on the provided microphones.

The game works very much like the original title (and its many derivatives). However, unlike the original the PS3 version now has the opportunity to download additional content for the title via the games own 'Singstore'. This additional content can range from minor extras such as game wallpaper and viewing other people's singstar extras (a singstar version of YouTube and just as embarrassing!). However the main reason for accessing the singstore is the ability to download additional songs for the title (stored in the game data folder). At the moment there aren't many songs available, but with more being added all the time the opportunity to download your favourite songs for a fraction of the price of buying a newly-updated or musical genre based version every 2 months is a welcome one. Buying the extra content takes the form of a sort of division of the PlayStation store - it accesses the account of the profile currently in use and deduct funds from the master account - it generally works out at around 99p per song and for that song that you 'must have', its good value - although why 'Land Down Under' wasn't in the main list that cam e with the game is beyond me - karaoke classic!

Another new feature of the PS3 version is the ability to upload videos to the aforementioned store for other users to view and generally make fun of your tone-deafness. Used in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye, this is achieved by the eye recording the action (and audio) while you drunkenly sing along to your favourite tunes. A great feature that makes use of the PSN capabilities.
