Description

Worms Crazy Golf is a golf game built around classic elements of the Worms series. The game is played against a 2D scenery with the goal to put the ball with as few swings as possible. If a course is completed in the par score or under, the next one is unlocked. The environment has many platforms and objects that can obstruct the ball or help it to travel farther. Aiming is done with a classic control system to determine the direction. The shot power is determined by charging it through a meter. The most powerful shots require precise timing as there is a red zone in the meter that causes a mistake and a penalty. Optionally the ball can be hit through a large image of a golf ball in the bottom right corner. Next to the main objective a hole can be completed 100% by collecting all coins, reaching the tricky crate and beating the skill points score.

Coins can be used to buy new clubs, balls, hats and speech banks. Clubs are switched automatically while playing, but it is always possible to choose a custom one. When on the green, the charging bar is different and it shows the precise amount needed to reach the hole through a flag icon. Other elements that influence the gameplay are worms that blows themselves up when hit, exploding sheep, castles to teleport to another part of the map, cannons to launch the ball without starting a new shot, destructible boulders, and more. During a shot spin can be exercised for aftertouch. Wind and surface also play a role and some courses have magnets that attract or repel the ball. Different types of gadgets can be unlocked to slow down time for instance. It is possible to zoom into the scenery and after a shot a replay can be viewed.

From the main menu a custom golfer can be created. Multiplayer games are supported through a hot seat mode for up to four players. Between regular rounds five types of bonus rounds are unlocked that can also be played as separate challenges:
  • Skill shot: destroy targets such as sheep in a sequence against the clock.
  • Time attack: clear all targets as quickly as possible.
  • Chip-in: chip on the green to gain time and keep going as long as possible. After each shot there is a new starting location.
  • Target: land the ball in coloured zones as fast as possible to score points.
  • Keep Ups: strike the ball and keep it moving as long as possible by applying spin.
The game consists of three main environments with eighteen holes each: Britannia, Pirate Cavern and Graveyard. For the Windows, Macintosh and iPad versions a fourth scenario called Carnival was added afterwards for free. For the PS3 version as well, but there it needs to be downloaded separately as free DLC (Worms Crazy Golf: Carnival Course). It is not featured in the iPhone version.
