Chicago, IL - December 22, 2000

On my way home for Christmas break, I took a day to expliore Chicago...Managed to see the Polish Museum of America and the Shedd Aquarium...

Standing at over 20 feet tall, this stained glass artwork is pretty impressive. The Poles brought it to the World's Fair in the '30s to demonstrate that Poland had regained its former glory (after coming back into existence as a country in 1919). Not long after the fair Hitler invaded, and the stain glass has been in America ever since.

The famous winged soldiers of the Polish cavalry. The sound of air over the feathers apparently makes quite a sound and frightened the enemy's horses. Polish cavalry also dominated with a hollow lance.

Carvings from a large block of salt. There is an entire mine of such carvings in Poland.

Traditional Polish dolls...

Large painting portraying invading Turks...

A "traditional" Polish Christmas setting...

Outside the Shedd Aquarium...unfortunately all the pictures turned out dark. That's a frozen Lake Michigan tho, with the Aquarium right beside it.

The same scene from inside the aquarium. This is a huge dolphin tank, probably 50 feet deep. Again Lake Michigan outside the windows.

A Beluga whale and her new child.

Some pictures from down below the dolphin tank.

This guy was just laying on the bottom of tank, hardly moving...
