CodeLab Instruction Sheet

 

What is CodeLab?

CodeLab is an online program for learning and practicing computer programming. CodeLab is available to you anywhere you have access to the world wide web. It is delivered and supported by a company called Turing’s Craft. Their home page is http://www.turingscraft.com . To first get acquainted with the system you can take a short guided tour of CodeLab at http://www.turingscraft.com/tour.php .

 

How to Register

You need to register right away to get a username and password and put yourself on your instructor’s CodeLab roster.

 

1) Go to this web site: http://www.turingscraft.com/spring2004.html

2) Click REGISTER.

3) Enter the following where it asks for a registration code: WI302LT15

4) Use your email address as a login and make up a password.

5) Write down your password somewhere so you don’t forget it.

6) Follow the instructions until you get to the LOGIN screen.

 

Note: It is important that you enter your actual name during the registration so that your instructor can give you credit for the work you do in CodeLab.

 

How to Pay

You can purchase with a credit card or a check. If you don’t have the capability to do either, talk to your instructor. You can do up to 10 exercises within 10 days before payment, but this won’t get you far.

 

Credit Card:

  1. Login to CodeLab
  2. Click PREFERENCES at the top of the CodeLab window.
  3. Click the BUY link.
  4. Fill out the form and submit.
  5. Return to LAB portion of CodeLab and continue.

 

Check:

You can purchase with a check by calling 1-866-TURING1 (887-4641). Purchases can be made 10am-6pm EST, Monday through Friday. They will give you a code to enter in PREFERENCES of your CodeLab to give you full access. If they do not receive the check 1 week after you call, they will suspend your CodeLab access until payment is arranged.

 

How to Use CodeLab

Keep track of the due dates for each chapter on your own. To complete a chapter, follow these steps:

 

1) Go to the web site http://www.turingscraft.com/spring2004.html

2) Click LOGIN and fill in your login and password.

3) Click the chapter you want in the left-hand column.

4) Use the NEXT button in the top right corner to go through the chapter. If you submit a wrong answer, read the error messages and then use the RETURN TO WORK AREA button to go back and fix it. Once you’ve gotten the answer right, click the NEXT button to go to the next exercise.

 If you experience any technical difficulties, during registration or with any exercise, please send email directly to support@turingscraft.com and copy your instructor on the email.
