CS/ECE 354 Machine Organization and Programming

Fall 2008 Section 1
Instructor Mark D. Hill
TAs Mark Liu & Somayeh Sardashti

Computing

You will use computers that are running Unix. It appears that the instructional machines assigned for use by 354 will be running Red Hat Enterprise 5 as their operating system. These machines are the emperor machines (in room 1350 CS&S) and the adelie, humboldt, or macaroni machines (in room 1370 CS&S). If you had an account in CS last semester, it will still be available to you. Otherwise, you have been assigned a new account. Learn how to access your account by logging in as "newuser" on one of the Unix machines (leave the password entry blank).

  • If this is not clear, you should attend ONE 60-90-minute CSL Unix Orientation Session in the first week of classes. For times, see posted signs on the first floor of Computer Science and Statistics, where you would take the elavator to the CS offices.
  • CSL Getting Started with information and links on activating a CS account, machines, and CSL policies.
  • CSL Complete Computer Systems Lab Documentation (including FAQ).
