The Nipple Erectors!

The last time I saw Shane, singer with the Nipple Erectors, was at the Electric Charis / Rockats gig at the Music Machine where he was enthusing about both Whirlwind ("my favorite band") and the new punkabilly sound - specifically to be found in his just recorded single.

Shane, who hit instant fame in October '76 when a girl chomped his ear at the momentous ICA Clash gig, has always been sort of "around" which made me rather suspect of the whole thing. When 'faces' finally get around to justifying their existence the results are nearly always dissapointing if not downright embarassing. So it was with relief that I heard the damn thing 'King of the Bop / Nervous Wreck', because it wasn't by Shane it was Shane. His persona oozed out of the record - giving it more charm and basic feel than all its competitors combined.

The sort of charm the N. E.s have though is the sort that onstage turns against a band and makes the whole affair a complete shambles - and as I havent yet turned up at their gigs in time to see them and check this possibility out I'm not going to give you any "best up and coming band in London" . . .
