. . . Some years later Phil Chevron was to join Shane McGowan's band The Pogues, but for now their only connection was both had releases on Chiswick Records. Shane and Shanne and a shifting population of guitarists and drummers had started life as The Nipple Erectors and released two singles on Soho Records run by Stan Brennan and Phil Gaston, who had taken over the Rock On record stall in Soho when Ted & Roger had moved into full time employment with Chiswick. The third Soho release 'Gabrielle' (CHIS 119) was picked up by Chiswick and came out as The Nips, since serious radio play was unlikely as The Nipple Erectors. Shanne went on to join The Ment They Couldn't Hang. The single came out at the end of '79 before the Stick Shifts. (The drummer on the session was Grinny, late of Skrewdriver.)
