Assistant Professor of Computer Science at
Xavier University

I grew up in rural Minnesota. Thus, it should come as no surprise that I love everything to do with lakes and the outdoors. I enjoy long-distance running, biking, tennis, hiking, skiing, and, of course, fishing and boating. I spent my high school years as a local “computer fix-it guy.” Thus began my crusade to improve the world's software.

I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Saint John's University. There, I got my first taste of research (in programming language development) working with Dr. J Andrew Whitford Holey. After that, I spent about a year and a half working as a software engineer/consultant before deciding to return to graduate school at UW—Madison. I completed my Ph.D. in 2017, working with Ben Liblit. My dissertation work helps to improve the debugging experience for deployed software. After completing my Ph.D., I joined the computer science faculty at Xavier University.

In June 2012, I married my amazing, supportive wife, Kendra. We live in Cincinnati, OH with our cat, Novah, and our puppy, Neelix.
