Introduction

The curriculum in computer networking at the University of Wisconsin has developed over the past eight years. In Fall 1983, an introductory graduate level topics course, "(Introduction to) Computer Networks," was taught for the first time. Because of its popularity, this course was made, in Spring 1987, into a regular graduate course, to be taught every semester. In Fall 1990, the graduate course was converted to a joint undergraduate - graduate course and a new graduate level "Advanced Computer Networks" course was introduced. Over the years, enrollment in the introductory class has consistently reached the maximum allowed (initially 30, now 50). In this paper, we describe these courses.
