The Tilt Move

Just a quickie...I'm after a reference for the very beautiful convincer David Blaine uses as part of the tilt move within his ambitious routine. It's not regarding the push out of the middle cards, but rather the separation of the deck using his index finger to add the illusion of where he then intends to insert the card. Of all the literature I have this one is not mentioned. It looks simple enough but for some reason I can't seem to smoothly separate the deck as well as he does.

Jon Racherbaumer, in his book Flashpoints: Marlo's Full Tilt discusses the one handed tilt "get ready" on pages 30-32.

The book is exceptional. It is hard to believe that there is so much you can do with the tilt.

Daryl also discusses the tilt in his Ambitious Card video as well as his 8 Video series on card handling.

If anyone knows of other tilt moves on video, it would be appreciated if you could tell us.

Daryl has a convincing tilt move ironically called "Daryl's Convincing Tilt" and it's basically the same move Blaine uses except it's from the other end of the deck with your thumb that you lift up. I learned this from Card Stunts I believe...Daryl discusses the tilt move on his ambitous card video but not the "Convincing Tilt" move that he came up with to add a convincer to the tilt itself.

The person who came up with the idea to "poke" some cards out from the center of the deck as a convincer was Howie Schwantzmen (sp?)...it's called the "schwartzmen touch" or the "schwartzmen catch".

It is also in Card College 4. I have not yet mastered this convincer. I'm getting some angle problems on both left and right sides.

John Shryock showed this during his lecture in one of his routines. I beleive he credited it to Schwartzman, but I'm not 100% sure. nice little touch, but I still prefer pushing a few center cards out a bit.

Convincing Tilt is a move created by Daryl Martinez, I believe. At least that's what it says in my copy of 'The Legendary Hierophant'.
