A notorious drug kingpin reigning over Los Angeles, California and operating across numerous other states, Rick was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1996. But following the discovery his drug source was linked to the CIA and he had been used as a pawn in the Iran-Contra scandal, he received a reduced sentence.

From the Inside Flap
Freeway Rick Ross: The Untold Autobiography is an intimate look at the day-to-day dealings of a drug kingpin in the heart of the ghetto. It's also the story of a boy born in poverty Texas who grew up in a single-parent household in the heart of South Central, who was pushed through the school system each year and came out illiterate. His options were few, and he turned to drug dealing. This Untold Autobiography is not only personal, but also historical in its implications. Rick Ross chronicles the times by highlighting the social climate that made crack cocaine so desirable, and he points out that at the time, the "cops in the area didn't know what crack was; they didn't associate the small white rocks they saw on homies as illegal drugs." All Rick Ross knew was that people wanted it.
This is an amazingly inspirational story. Most men in Rick's position do their time in prison, get out , then continue the same lifestyle within a short time because they don't know what to do. But Rick changed his life and began giving back to the community. Helping youth at risk kids proves one does not have to go down this path. I have a lot of respect for this man. His money may be gone, but who he is inside is one great person and an inspiration. The book was well written by Cathy Scott and Rick Ross.

Rick was the man I started on Wiki, but this is the real deal... According to an October 2013 articl in Esquire magazine titled "Say Hello to Rick Ross," "Between 1982 and 1989, federal prosecutors estimated, Ross bought and resold several metric tons of cocaine. In 1980 dollars, his gross earnings were said to be in excess of $900 million – with a profit of nearly $300 million. Converted roughly to present-day dollars: 2.5 billion gross, and $850 million in profit, respectively.”

This is an interesting book. What amazed me was how Rick was the consummate business man in his approach to selling drugs. He even managed to expand into several legitimate businesses, all the while being unable to read. I must admit that I had not heard of him before and did not know who he was. His exploits in LA, avoiding the police and dealing with his "crew" would make a good movie.

This has to be one of the most fascinating books I've read in quite a long time. I had the opportunity to have Freeway Rick Ross on my live video show and his story, his mission and his message should be heard by millions.
Rick went from being one of the highest earning drug dealers to a life sentence. He was compared to Al Capone but did not know how to read and that he was harming his community. He simply did it because he saw his mother struggling financially and forced to give up her house.
When he went to prison, his cell mate taught him how to read. Rick read 23 hours a day and then began studying law. He found that his Harvard lawyers overlooked a critical point in his trial and was able to have his sentence reduced to 17 years. Before his release, Rick made the decision that he wanted to teach kids in the ghetto that there is another choice to selling drugs and gang banging.
Rick's mission is about literacy, leadership and legacy. This is a book that all races, all economic strata and all ages need to read. Well done Rick Ross!
