Book Description

Emma and Lamar Miller retreat to an Amish settlement in Florida for the winter as they lead another quilting class with a new group of unlikely students. Class members discover friendship, faith, healing, and perhaps a little romance while getting to know each other over their quilting projects.

More About the Author

Wanda Brunstetter is an award-winning romance novelist who has led millions of readers to lose their heart in the Amish life. She is the author of over 60 books with more than 7 million copies sold. Many of her books have landed on the top bestseller lists, including the New York Times, USA Today, Publisher's Weekly, CBA, ECPA, and CBD. Wanda is considered one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre, and her work has been covered by national publications, including Time Magazine and USA Today.

Wanda's fascination with the Amish culture developed when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church, and whose family has a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sister-in-laws caused Wanda to yearn for the simpler life. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America. Wanda's desire to explore their culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith.

All of Wanda's novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Many of her books are well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.

Wanda's primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Wanda finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern "Englishers." Time and time again, Wanda loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too. For more information, visit: www.WandaBrunstetter.com

This is the third book in the series I have read.

I found the characters all to be very believable, and somehow they all fit into the pattern of the story, even though they were all quite different.

I just completed reading and in celebration made Emma's Raisin Molasses Cookies and my house smells wonderbar! Wanda never disappoints me with her characters and story line. Emma and her husband are so caring to their quilting class students in spite of the challenges with which each student comes. Wanda introduces us to such endearing characters. I can hardly wait for our next quilting class. Thank you again for another wonderful book!

Emma and Lamar, an Amish couple, decide to move to Sarasota, Florida for the winter due to Lamar having some health problems. They once again open their home by offering six weeks of quilting lessons. The students that sign up for the lessons come for a wide range of reasons. Noreen, a widow, looking for something different; BJ, an artist who has an illness; Erika, confined to a wheelchair with anger issues who wouldn't even be there except her father signed her up; Kim is single and lonely except for her dog; Jennifer, an expecting mom; and finally Mike, who runs a charter boat business. Also blended in, very cleverly, are updates on students the reader will recognize from the previous books in this series. Emma and Lamar's students will learn much more than quilting. It is Emma's desire for her students to share and encourage each other. Emma and Lamar try to offer godly counseling and life lessons without being pushy. Emma and Lamar have such a positive way of counseling their students, always waiting on God's guidance, and remaining faithful to their Amish beliefs. Lessons in sharing, forgiveness, honesty, trust, acceptance, are something we can all learn from.
Wanda Brunstetter has once again written a book that will have you not wanting to put it down. This book can be read as a stand alone however I recommend reading them in order. The characters are from diverse walks of life but very believable and easy to relate to and even learn from. I hope this will not be the last book in this series. Very enjoyable and inspiring!

Book Description

Retired Amish newlyweds Emma and Lamar Miller have decided to buy a winter place in Sarasota, Florida. But it wouldn’t feel like home if Emma didn’t take her quilting materials and offer classes. Wounded and hurting people have a knack for finding their way to her classes for some quilting therapy: Jennifer, a pregnant new mom; Mike, a charter boat owner; Erika, a wheelchair-bound teen; Kim, a waitress; Noreen, a newly-retired widow; and BJ, an artist facing illness. And when Jan, visits from Indiana, romance is also added to the class discussions.

My Review

This Book is the final book of “Return of the Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club” Series. This book was wonderful, I just thoroughly love Wanda Brunstetter’s writing skills, I just wish I had some of that.

I did not read the other books in the series, so at first I wasn’t for sure who the people were in the previous books but it was very easy to follow her way of thinking though.

Emma and Lamar decide to move to Florida for the winter since Lamar has arthritis problems. There are 4 people who attended Emma’s classes in Sarasota, Florida and believe you me they all have different problems and Emma tries to help them out but you know what, the Lord intervenes and each one solves their own problems, hehe. There is Ericka, who really has problems feeling sorry for herself, BJ has problems dealing with cancer, Phyllis only attends one class and then her husband Mike attends for her and Kim who is just very lonely until she meets Jan from a previous class. You will not be sorry you read this book.

Format: Paperback
My two top favorite writers of the genre are Beverly Lewis and Wanda E. Brunstetter, in which I either buy each new book by the authors or I sign up to review the books. Arriving earlier this month on paperback is Wanda E. Brunstetter's latest novel, The Healing Quilt, which is the second book in the Return of the Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club; well actually it is the third book if you count 2012's The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club. I have to admit that I have never read the other books in the series, though I do own The Half-Stitched Amish Quilting Club on paperback and I have The Healing Quilt on my Kindle; I just never got around to reviewing them yet.

That being said, I still jumped at the opportunity to review The Healing Quilt, which follows the same main characters from the previous books, Lamar and Emma Yonder Miller, an Amish couple who purchased a winter home in the Pinecraft community of Sarasota, Florida. After settling into their new home, the couple decide to start another 6-week quilting class.

A wide variety of characters sign up for the quilting class. Erika is an angry teenager who was injured during a diving accident and is now wheelchair-bound; she doesn't want to take a quilting class, but her father signs her up anyway. Noreen joined the class, as she was just looking for something new to do; her husband passed away awhile back and her son and daughter-in-law lives in Texas. Jennifer is soon to be a mother for the very first time and she would love to learn how to make a quilt for the baby, but she doesn't have the money because her husband lost his job. Out of nowhere, an unknown stranger pays for the quilting class. B.J.
