I cannot believe I am giving a book by Maya Banks a 1 star. She is my favorite author! I suppose that's why the bar is so high.

This book has too much inane chatter between the two main characters. I was darn near 50% into the book before they actually did anything of interest. Just horrible.

I was worried when I saw that Maya Banks has three series she is simultaneously writing. I was afraid with that much writing she would no longer have time to spend on well developed characters and story lines. My unsolicited advice to Maya is to stop writing so many darn series, and go back to one series with quality.

Who is writing Maya Banks' books???? The last two books I have purchased (After The Storm and Letting Go) have been boring, silly, not the least sexy. They don't even have the same cadence as her other books. Where is the alpha male who turns you on....not Dash (yuk name) that's for sure. Talk...talk...talk, no action, no romance. I'm 45% into the book and they finally hit the bed only to have a discussion about protection. She was nude during dinner, couldn't they talk then. Pulease, that's just not gonna happen. Now I know why he had to tie her up. This is the last book I will purchase by this author without reading the negative reviews first. Seems like some people will give a good review on name alone. If Ms. Banks' decline is due to trying to write too many series at the same time, I will second the advice that quality over quantity wins every time.

Oh . Yes. Dominant sexy men abound! Be still my heart. Letting Go was a fun, sexy and emotional start to the Surrender Trilogy. I loved the characters, the set up of finding love in an unexpected place, the little bits of humor and the delicious steam that heated up the pages as Joss and Dash figured out their new relationship and everything that came with it...

The quick of it is that 3 year ago Joss lost her husband in a car accident and has grieved the loss ever since but she's ready to live her life again and move on. And that includes exploring her desires for being in a dominant/submissive relationship. Surprise, surprise her husband's best friend-- and the man she's gone to the last few years for support--just happens to be one dominant alpha male who is madly in love with her and wants to be the only man in her life.

So Joss. I loved her. She's a pretty amazing woman. I really admired her and that she went after what she wanted even knowing her friends might have trouble with her decisions. While she's not always sure of her self she's a strong woman and I enjoyed seeing her embrace her submissive side. And when things called for it--standing up for herself.

And Dash. Lord love him. The man is smitten with Joss and has been since the moment he met her years earlier. And he's pined for her this whole time. I really enjoyed his character as well even if he did screw up in one gloriously horrifying to watch moment. Lordy this man does not do anything half force. lol Loving her, taking care of her, screwing up, smexy bedroom times. I mean. He goes all out. And, most of the time, it's damn fun to watch. Even his mess up I appreciated.

I regret that I didn't read the reviews before buying this book. It's one of the worst that I've read in a long time. There's too much redundant chatter and the storyline is weak. I skipped a lot of paragraphs and I couldn't wait for the book to be over.

I've read her other books and this is the the worst one.

This story will tug at your heart strings. It will make you insert yourself into each character’s position and question what you would do if you were them. And the crazy thing is at times you will have no idea what you would do. I liked the story – a widow wants to try a dominant/submissive lifestyle only to find that her deceased husband’s best friend is the one that can give her what she needs – but I didn’t love this book as much as I’ve enjoyed Maya’s other books.

Joss had the fairy tale marriage. She actually got the happily ever after that everyone dreams on having. She loved Carson, her husband, with ever bone in her body but there was something missing…something she couldn’t ask of him despite how much she craved it. So she told herself she didn’t need it and was content with that. But then, Carson died suddenly and her world was shattered. So for three years she has gone through the grieving process with her husband’s best friend, Dash, by her side for support.

But she’s done enough grieving and has decided to go after what she has always felt she’s wanted…someone to dominate her, own her, fulfill her need. She never expected to find that the person she was looking for was right in front of her, Dash, her husband’s best friend. Dash has been in love with Joss since the moment he met her. But, he valued his friendship with his best friend and never acted on his feelings. Even after Carson died, he never once made a move…until he saw her at his exclusive sex club.

The one thing about this book that you will get is emotion. The author nailed the emotions of these characters. They were so realistic and honest. They were the kind of emotions I would expect someone to have if they were in the characters’ shoes.
