About the Author
Corine Gantz was born in France where she spent the first twenty years of her life. She studied Contemporary Arts at the Sorbonne in Paris and worked in advertising and marketing in Paris, San Francisco and Los Angeles. She is the author of the popular blog Hidden in France where she uses her particular brand of humor to meditate on relationships, food, décor and all things French. She lives near Los Angeles with her husband and their two sons.

She is the author of the best selling novel Hidden in Paris and the accompanying cookbook, now being translated in half a dozen languages. She is also the author of the popular blog Hidden in France where she muses about décor, travel, food and all things French.
She is passionate about food (cooking it and eating it) and has lately tried to adapt her love of French food to her new mission: vegan cooking. On occasion she leads seminars and writing workshops. She is currently working on a new novel: a family saga and tale of love and loss that takes place in France over a century.
Since being swept off her feet by an American, she lives in Southern California with her husband and their two sons.

I just LOVED that book and I couldn't put it down. Everything I have been missing about Paris is in it (the good things about the French as well as the annoying ones!). I got attached to the characters right away, I like that they were multi dimensional (how boring when everyone is either wonderful or evil with no in between). It made me want to move into that beautiful house and be nurtured by Annie and fed her amazing cooking. This book makes you travel to France without having to buy a plane ticket.

If you're like me, you take advantage of long rainy days by snuggling up with a good book and your favorite beverage (hot chocolate or champagne---either is nice, right?) and hunker down for several hours. That's if you're lucky enough to have a book that draws you into the characters the way "Hidden in Paris" does. I felt I knew these characters and they reminded me of my own friends. It's a romance but mainly about the friendship these 3 very different women share. Annie, the lead character, doesn't get out much even though she lives in Paris (hence the title) but she brings Paris in to her wonderful kitchen. Cooking is Annie's way of showing love, nurturing friends, and just expressing her joie de vivre. If you live near a French bakery, be sure to buy some brioche or other pastries to munch on while reading the book. Where was I? Oh yeah...the author writes with the same wry commentary and humor that you may already know from her "Hidden in France" blog. This book has many funny passages in it including a great one about the use of the letters "W T F". It's a gem of a book and I suggest you get it for that rainy day or for the beach this summer.Then keep it on the bookshelf alongside Nicholas Sparks, Emily Giffen, and The Joy of Cooking.

I loved Hidden in Paris! Ms. Gantz has created a story that should be read and savored - much like the Parisian lifestyle she depicts. The characters were deep and immensely likable and the plotline was smooth and delicious. They say every writer has one great novel inside them somewhere. Well, I dearly hope Ms. Gantz has another one to follow up this masterpiece! The undertones of love and motherhood, self-loathing and hidden anger are so palpable that it's bound to keep readers up way past their bedtimes. Truly, truly, truly an excellent novel that leaves its reader pondering the characters' lives and choices long after the last page. I'd recommend this book to anyone and everyone!

Reading some of the reviews, I was mystified. Researching the critics, I found all but one liked very little they had purchased. Sounds more like home buyer's remorse addiction than an honest critique of "Hidden in Paris" (or anything else they purchased). The other is a young, self-proclaimed critic with a web site. No criticism on my part as everyone needs a niche. I just like to see who is critiquing.
Myself, I have no credentials, but loved the book. I bought it on my Kindle ... by accident, hitting the wrong title. I wish all my mistakes turned out this well.
The creativity, fluidity, humor and unique writing style make this a first-rate read. The characters are live and real, pulling few punches. You may not like this if you are dealing with some of the real character issues or have a history you are trying to forget. For myself, I found the "realness" of characters added a welcome balance to many other books I have read where the characters' problems lag with superficiality. This being said, I found most of the characters fun and intriguing.
This leaves me with a question: When is Corine Gantz publishing her next?

What if Woody Allen, Patricia Wells, Lorrie Moore and A Real Housewife from Beverly Hills sat around a table in a gorgeous old French house and said: Let's Make a Party!
This fizzy novel of romance and reinvention reads swiftly and easily and compulsively. There is passion, there is pathos, I think there is also some foie gras in there too.
The character of Annie keeps you guessing, the characters of Lola and Althea keep you grounded. The male characters are sympathetically and persuasively written, a nice contrast to the "Men Behaving Badly" state of our current world affairs.
The end result is the happy reminder that Paris, C'est La Fete! I mean, that Paris is a deliciously dizzy party. Yes, you could reinvent yourself elsewhere, but why bother when you have Paris?!
I spent two afternoons reading this book and got off the sofa feeling like an entirely new person! Guess it worked! Milles mercis Mme. Gantz!

I purchased this book on a whim because my husband and I were going to Paris in August, and I am really glad I did. I loved the characters, I loved the insight into the personalities of Parisians, and I really loved the descriptions of Annie's food! I think there should be a follow-up cookbook...

Thank you Corine for such an engaging and absorbing read. I truly enjoyed the book and read it in three days, staying up way too late at night to follow Annie, Lola & Althea's stories. Annie is a wonderful character--multi-dimensional, real, giving, selfish...a bit of what we all are. I could completely relate to her mothering and love of all things French food. You can tell by reading this that Corine is a real mother with love to spare for her boys. Lola took me a bit of getting used to because I couldn't really understand her but that was me and not the written description of her. Althea made me sad and concerned and her mother was absolutely awful.
My favorite character, without a doubt, was Lucas. The words Corine gave him made me laugh out loud.
As with all books,I read it with an eye to how the novel was created, imagining the work and how it was done. What a feat to have written and self-published such an engaging and fun read. I'm jealous of the completion of it!
I should tell you that I was lucky enough to win a copy of Hidden in Paris. I don't know what I would have done if I hadn't liked it (probably been super quiet and pretended like I hadn't had a chance to read it yet) but I can tell you that it is great fun, well-written and the perfect summer poolside or beach read. Read it and enjoy.
