Barbara Ireland, a writer and editor based in western New York State, is a former deputy travel editor and deputy Op-Ed page editor at The New York Times. While on the Times staff, she commissioned and edited many "36 Hours" columns and wrote a few herself. She is a graduate of Cornell University and was a John S. Knight journalism fellow at Stanford University.

Beautiful guide books

I love these 36 hour books. They are beautifully made and printed reference for my travels. Since my retirement I get to take so many trips to places I actually have time to explore now. Nice series of books.

Great for the Guest Room or Travel Planning

I was uncertain if I should order this particular book as it was described as a paperback, while all the others
in the series stated they where hybrid paperback/ hardback. Turns out all the bindings are the same flexible hardcover style. Really nice.
They look lovely as a set. The information is compiled straight from the NYTimes website. It's worth buying the books as a gift
or to leave in the guest room. The 36 hours of activities in each city did not always match my choices but they're a fun read.
Buy the whole set.

Great For Impromptu Road Trips

I got this book as a wedding gift. My honeymoon was a road trip from Vegas to Reno to the Bay Area and down the PCH to LA and back to Northern Arizona, where I live. We had no concrete plans or hotels booked, so this book was a wonderful surprise! We went to over 10 places that we definitely would have missed without it. The East Bay Vivarium and the Henry Miller Library were both fantastic. I definitely trust the NYT to point out interesting, out of the way places on my next road trip. I just purchased two more books from this series for our next adventure!
