Meet the Author

Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write.

Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake.

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

    I love KA's contemporary books. They are my go to when I want to

    I love KA's contemporary books. They are my go to when I want to take a vacation from life. It hurts to say this but I am so disappointed in this book. It is almost as if she didn't write it the editors did. I noticed the editing was overdone in Raid but It was still total KA. This is not. It make me worried about Kaildascope. Will the editors write it too.?
    Feb's tender relationship. Ham is nothing like him, most of Ham is on the cutting room floor, I fear. How did he get the name ham? What was his upbringing like, how did he feel about his first wife, the other relationships that formed him? You can't real feel it in this book. Zara!  Who is she, how are she and Nina, Becca and Missy connected, how did her parents influence her? None of these things are felt in this book. It is emotionless and that is NEVER how KA writes.

    In all her other books, I can smell, taste and feel where the characters are. I am right there. In this book, I felt like I was reading it from Mars. All of us KA fans know that she can write powerful, emotional, and fun stories. When she was self edited they all were that way, now they are not. KA, you need to fire your editors!. We all expect and love your real stories. I wish right now I was reading the unedited version of Jagged, I bet it was killer. This version is not.

    Not her best.

    Unfortunately, the development of the lead characters and their chemistry fell flat. The heroine was unlike KA's previous and came off as more of a victim than a survivor. Unlike her previous novels where the Alpha Male comes off as loyal and irresistable, Ham came off as less of a hero and more of an egotistical jerk.

    I hate to say I was disappointed because I LOVE KA. She writes s

    I hate to say I was disappointed because I LOVE KA. She writes such wonderful characters that for me her books are crack. Sadly, while still much better than books I've read from other authors, it's not her best. Compared to her other books I would rate it a 3, but even a disappointing KA book is still a 4 star when compared to others.

    The relationship between Graham Reece and Zara didn't do it for me. I love flawed characters, but I also need to find a way to connect with them and respect them in some way. He was a traveling man and KA didn't quite showcase how he was special enough to justify Zara's lack of self-respect from the very beginning. Since we started the story with her already loving Ham, and we later found out that Ham came back because he realized he loved Zara, I felt I missed out on their journey of falling in love and the reasons why they found each other so special. KA didn't quite bring it home for me, mostly because I felt so much of the critical part of their journey, how they fell in love to begin with, was told instead of shown. I couldn't understand why he was so wonderful that Zara thought he was worth being at his beck and call, especially when she knew he had other women. This dynamic was very unattractive to me, so it was an uphill climb for me to like these characters to begin with, and the character redemption wasn't as fleshed out as I needed it to be for either Ham or Zara.

    I enjoyed the story but I could not care enough about these characters for it to be satisfying. This is not one of her books that I will read over and over again, however I'm still a fan and looking forward to her next book.

    Boring what happened

    I LOVE the KA books but this one sucked. I could barely finish it. Zara was boring Ham was flat. No emotional attachment between them or to me as a reader. The story just dragged no oomph. No rooting for any characters. No deep feeling. I feel like KA lost her natural talent and what made her so popular. Im kind of worried and am not that excited for the next book. Please switch up KA (i want the old KA back)

    Fricking Awesome

    Kristen tells the best stories. From bad to good.I finished this inn under 24 hours. Couldn't stop to sleep n the song at the end is awesome.

    So disappointed

    What a waste of great characters and a great story line. I have read almost all of KA's books, and I was looking forward to the follow-up of Graham Reece from For You. I don't.understand why the story was so short and poorly wrapped up. Bummer bc it could have been a classic, fabulous novel. But it fell waaaay short!

    I love KA, but like others this book just didn't do it for me. I agree with the person who said that Ham is on the cutting room floor. The book felt rushed. I really hope the next book isn't like this.

    not so good

    i have read every book ka has written and was very excited about this one. i am disapointed. this book is boring and does not even seem like she wrote it.

    Not up to her usual standards : (

    I've read most of Kristen Ashley novels and have loved almost all of them. This one will not be on that list. I'm use to a 1,000 pages where you get to know all about the characters and clever dialogue.

    I know she's gone with a publisher now and that she has guidelines for them but this seemed like a rush story and more of a promotion for Gamble (which is one of my favorites) than her usual books.

    I only hope this isn't what I have to look forward to.

    Unanswered

    There was several things left unanswered for me in this book - like their nicknames, when did Carnel become Gnaw Bone, why if Zara is so loved was she never mentioned in any other book, how they fell in love, what happened to KA's signature writing style, why the back story on Ty and Lexie and Chase and Faye was included (I get Nina bc they're friends, Feb because of Reece but Lexie and Faye? Just rang odd to me). ..and so many more the book should have been titled unanswered mot Jagged - speaking of which if Zara loves his "jagged" voice why wasn't it mentioned? Where is zara's sass? More importantly: WHAT HAPPENED TO KA'S SIGNATURE WRITING STYLE?!

    What I did like: the honesty between Zara and Ham - once they opened back up to each other. How protective he is of her. That's pretty sweet.

    For five years Zara Cinders had rebuilt her life and started up her business, before coming to the realization that her occasional lover, Ham Reece, would not be the one to go that one step further and create the family with her she always wanted. He had been her rock through the years, helping her through the most difficult of times, but part of her had always known he would not stay around for long. Unfortunately Zara was very much in love with Ham.




    Graham Reece had sworn off serious relationships. He was content travelling from place to place, getting work wherever he decided to stop for a while, usually tending bar somewhere. No longer a young man, he dragged his share of baggage along and never really considered settling down.  So when Zara informed him she was seeing someone and was ready to settle down, he let her go. But he never completely could let her go. She had always been special to him and through a friend in town he was able to keep tabs on her.




    Three years later, when he crossed the path of a deranged madman, Ham took the opportunity to take a good long look at his life. There was one woman he regretted walking away from, and from the information he has received, she is not doing so great right now. Zara lost her business, her home and her marriage went up in smoke. She now is living in a seedy apartment and works for minimum wage barely making ends meet. Ham won't stand for that.




    Not trusting the changed man Ham claims he is, Zara is hesitant putting herself in a vulnerable position again. He has walked away before, why would she trust him to stick around now. But as some unfinished business from Zara's past rears its ugly head, Ham moves heaven and earth to resolve it and keep Zara as clear as possible from the fallout. Until his own nightmare comes knocking at the door.......

    Almost every Kristen Ashley book I read, I get so emotionally drawn in, I actually FEEL the emotions. I feel physically ill when Zara thinks Ham is with another woman....I FEEL a lump in my throught when he says "easy", or strokes his finger along her ear and jaw. I really live these books, and I can't think of another writer who has that ability. I'm a big fan......




    I love stories like these, of men that seem to be stuck in their unattached ways. Good men, just for some reason unable to give 100% of themselves........until they meet that someone. Then suddenly it's like a switch is flipped and they have a determination like no other to get the deal done. Graham at least shows a little restraint, that is, until he feels his woman is threatened or in danger of being hurt. Then it it's full steam ahead and in complete Alpha protective mode. For a big burly bear of few words, Ham is surprisingly insightfully and sensitive to Zara's needs.... Delicious!!




    Having survived a messed up childhood, Zara is not a push over by any stretch of the word. She built her own life, her own business after turning her back on her family, sure it didn't work out the way she wanted, but she wasn't sitting down or letting others pick up the pieces. She was scratching and clawing and doing whatever she had to to survive once again. Had it been anyone but Ham, basically forcing help on her, she would have resolutely refused. But Ham knows she won't take handouts, so he allows her to barter and bargain in order to at least maintain her pride. 




    As always the writing is a breath of fresh air. So tight and to the point, with few wasted words or endless dialogues. When you read the book, it is like watching a movie in writing. It is that captivating, that constantly entertaining. There is a pace and a flow that is almost impossible to interrupt, even for a bathroom break. (That's why I love my Kindle!!) 




    The language used is real, the emotions portrayed are not overdone, but feel honest. The sex is not drawn out, but concise and scalding hot, and I love that we often just 'walk in' on a scene, she loves doing that!!! 




    Let's face it, if I could, I'd have Kristen Ashley design me a man!!! I have no doubt he would be absolutely perfect!!

    I really enjoy Kristen Ashley's books. For me a nice change of pace. Not usual. I did agree with a reviewer that said certain things were not explained in the book. Each of her points were explained. I do not know how she read the same book. The explanations are just further into the. I am wondering if this reviewer did not finish the book. I totally enjoyed it and had a hard time putting it down. That said I did enjoy her DREAM MAN SERIES better. This book is worth the time and money and you will enjoy it.

    Fantastic

    I highly reccomend this book. Great story. Characters were awesome. Storyline was fresh and kept me so hooked.

    Another great KA read

    not sure about the ratings, but I loved it, It wasn't as exciting as a lot of the rock chick books, but was a really sweet story. Didn't have drive bys, things blowing up, etc, but was a simpler sweet love story. Ham is definately one ofmy fav guys. This was more real to me with more real issues.
