    A Complete Letdown

    This book is a complete letdown. I had looked forward to reading Van's HEA. Instead, I struggled to finish it. The plot is weak. The dialogue is akward. The narration is a joke and the editing is nonexistent. If I had to guess I would say someone besides Maya Banks wrote it.....and did a lousy job of it.

    Where's the suspense????

    Rather disappointed in this one, not nearly as suspenseful and action-packed as the rest of the KGI series. It was so repetitive, chapter after chapter of the same conversations and thoughts.

    Pretty bummed since I've been looking forward to this book for months, and Donovan deserved a better story.

    He's supposed to be the resident "geek" and computer whiz, yet there weren't any scenes where he shows his compter prowess.

    Way too much focus on conversation- again, the same ones over and over- and no real character development and very little action. Every other KGI story has depicted the team members as being badasses with plenty of opportunities to kick some ass...kind of the point of the series, or at least I thought so?? Its barely even mentioned that Donovan was a marine.

    Sadly the story just lacked any real "believability". Hope Maya does better on the next one! She's one of my favorite authors and I absolutely love this series. This one is a miss though.

    WHERE IS DONOVAN KELLY'S BOOK???!!
    I am sorry, but this book was not up to the same standards as the other KGI books. I was very disappointed in this book. I thought this book was going to be great since it involved a woman and two children on the run from some danger that was unknown to the Van and the Kellys, who were trying to save them, and in the process Van and the woman would fall in love. Well, all I have to say is that I am still waiting for Donovan's book, because this was not it. This was most definitely not the usual KGI book. When I read a KGI book, I am used to it being action-packed, romantic, funny, suspense-filled, filled with witty dialogue between the characters, and just downright GOOD. This book was none of those things. It was actually on the boring side. Almost 400 pages of boring with a reprieve every now and again. I was not sure who this Donovan "Van" Kelly was, because he was not the sexy, funny, and nerdy Van that we have all come to love from the prior KGI books. This Van was a bit on the creepy side with the whole my family, mine, mine, mine, and I protect what is mine. Are you kidding me??!! What happened to the Van that was able to access Hoss to do research and find out information about things concerning KGI's mission, fly a plane, triage an injured person on the scene, etc?? It was like Van lost all of his intelligence in this ridiculous story!!! Thank God for Sean Cameron and Resnick, and seriously, everyone needs to stop calling Resnick all of these derogatory names, because he has saved the Kellys and their teams on many occasions!!! And let me not forget to address Eve. She was a complete idiot. I could not believe how simple this girl was. There was this whole thing about trying to make us believe that she was a fighter and that she was strong. Sorry, but I wasn't buying it, because SHE WAS NOT. SHE WAS A DARN IMBECILE!! SHE WAS SILLY AND SIMPLE!! And, Lords knows that what she did towards the end was just dumb!!! Eve was not up to the standard of the other women in this series, be it a Kelly wife or a KGI team member's wife. And she definitely was not up to the standard of PJ or Skylar!!! She does not compare to Sophie, Sarah, Rachel, Shea, or any of the other women that have been matched with the other men in the book, and those were perfect matches. Honestly, Van deserves better than this weak woman who needs to constantly be told she is loved over and over and over again. It was annoying and rang of desperation. Actually, the entire book rang of desperation. I didn't particularly feel the love connection between Van and Eve, like I felt it between the other brothers and their respective wives, as well as the team leaders and their wives. I felt like it was just give me a family just for the sake of giving me one because my brothers have it and I want it, too!!! Not to mention, there was way too much inner dialogue in this book. How many times did I have to hear not only Van's thoughts, but Eve's thoughts as well on the same darn topics, over and over again. The book was extremely repetitive!! Where was the dialogue between the characters??!! And whenever there was dialogue between the characters, the characters spoke forever in these long drawn out paragraphs. It was just strange. Honestly, I am still waiting for Van's book, because this was not it!! The thing that helped save this book, at least, for me, was Garrett, who is always absolutely hilarious, his wife, Sarah, who obviously has her husband rubbing off on her, Steele carrying around baby Olivia, and the interesting dynamics between Rusty and Sean. I am truly hoping that Swanny's book is much better than Donovan's book. I truly did not expect this to be Donovan's book after waiting so long for it and after reading all of those other wonderful KGI books that had me by the seat of my pants. After the Storm was a total let down, an even bigger let down than Burn (Ash's story in the Breathless trilogy) was, for me. Very sad. I love the Kellys and KGI, and I will continue to read the KGI series, but I really hope to never experience what I experienced in Van's book again in another KGI book.

    This book completely missed the mark. I've read all of the KGI books and was looking forward to Donovan's story, but it was a complete disappointment. There was no suspense, the characters declared their "love" for each other before they even spent any real time together, and instead of being this cool badass computer geek Donovan was almost wimpy (which he was not in the other books). The guy didn't even get to show off his computer skills. There was no development of the bad guy - those scenes were anti-climatic and the miscommunication at the end was laughable. If I didn't love the other books so much, I'd have given this book a 1 star. I hope the next one redeems the series!

    Not good

    The only good thing i can say is i finished it. Unbelievable senarios-babble same thoughts over and over. How long does maya think her fans will keep buying this drivel? Can one of her editors tell her the truth? It feels as though she puts no effort into her books the last four were awful. She's ruined the KGI series.

    What happened?!

    I'm so disappointed in this book. I was doing alright with it in the beginning, and helping Eve, Travis, and Cammie was something I'd expect from Van. The plot could have been written into a good book. Then he moved them into his house, and it all went sideways and downhill. The characters' actions were so unbelievable I lost all interest and started skimming it, looking for scenes with Rusty and Sean, whose story I am looking forward to. I just hope Maya finds herself again - this book was so beneath her abilities. I don't want her to ruin Rusty's story too. I recently read a blog Maya wrote where she said she never reads reviews of her own books. Someone should tell her to break that rule and read these - she should hear how disappointed her readers were, almost without exception, with this book and why, and keep those in mind when writing the next book. It's like she sold out, and cares more about quantity than quality. She's losing her readers, which is sad, because she used to be so good. I no longer buy a Maya book automatically anymore - they just don't measure up to her first ones. Sadly, if this had been the first Maya book I'd read, it would have been my last.

    Bad, really bad.

    This book was bad, really bad. Lame story, unrelatable situations, cheese dialogs, and boring and repetitive narrative, ... a complete let down for fans of the KGI series. The quality of the last two books in the series had already diminished, but this one is simply a piece of crap that should have never being published. I wondered all along if a ghost writer (and a really bad one at that!), rather than Maya Bank, was the real author. But even more annoying was the fact that Van's story was wasted. Van had been one of the best characters in the series and a favorite among the fans. But I did not recognize him in this book. He was this desperate man possessive and obsessed with finding love and having his own family, and ready to snatch a vulnerable girl to his bed and to become the 'daddy' to her half brother and sister. Honestly, he was just creepy. And the girl... an empty, weak character with no appealing at all. I don't remember skimming through pages this much with any other book. I could not even stomach finishing the epilogue. It was that bad. I preordered this book months ago, so I had no choice but to read it. However, if you have not bought it yet, don't waste your money.

    Very disappointed

    I love the KGI series and expected more from Maya Banks, especially after Shades of Gray. The plot was riddled with holes and mistakes. So unrealistic at times, you'd think it wasn't edited at all. Very little character development and a vague backstory of the Kelly family. If you haven't read the other books in the series, don't start with this one. I'm surprised it was released as written.

    Poorly developed

    I agree with the other reviewers on how bad this book is. As an avid reader and someone who has read all the books in this series, I found it to be highly insulting and halfway through the book I decided to give up trying to finish it. I found myself skipping a lot pages as the plot was just too farfetched and way under my maturity level as a seasoned reader. After waiting all these months for Donovans's story, what a major let down. I won't continue with the series unless the next book is free.

    I have enjoyed the other KGI stories, but this one is BAD.  The female lead makes me embarrassed to be woman.  The male lead has the mindset of a 1950's Dad.  No development of characters, they are "in love" after spending about 30 mins in each others presence, and  Donovan tells the kids he is their new dad with out any understanding of how anyone feels about him.  SO BAD.  Big let down from other books.  Felt as if this was a first time author's novel.  Don't wast e your money or time on this one, check out the other KGI novels.

    Disapointing

    Not Maya Banks usual writing style at all. Story line was hokey and not believable, especially for a Kelly. I have read all of Maya Banks books and over all really like her writing. This one was just not there for me. If you are into the KGI series, then read it. Otherwise read one of her other books, much better.

    A major letdown!

    Wow, what a letdown. I have waiting it seems like forever for Van's book and was totally blindsided by this watered down version of him. As one of my favorite characters of this series, he seemed like a secondary character in his own story. There was no heat between the characters, no suspense whatstsoever. A real shame. I mean where was his geekiness with his computers. I normally pre-order these books but I have to say I will wait for the reviews on Swanny's book before purchasing. I hope this isn't a sign of the rest of these very successful series.

    Disappointing. Dont buy it

    This book is crap. I love the kgi series except for the last two book. What a waste of money. For the people who gave this book 5 stars, I have no idea what you were reading. Van was creepy and the girl was weak. Why do authrs ruin my favorite characters.

    Not good

    ## Okay, first let me say that I'm a huge fan of the KGI series. Nathan and Shea's story is my all time favotite. But.....

    WHAT HAPPENED MAYA?

    What a huge disappointment. After meeting the heroine twice, Van is already declaring plans to be a family forever. They had barely even spoken at this point. It was so unbelievable. And from then on, it was "my family", "my future"....so repetitive. She's my world, she's my life.....after two meetings? Come on.

    The only reason I bumped this book up to 2 stars is because I really did enjoy the first part of the book, before Eve moved to the compound. After that everything felt forced. Even the sex scenes weren't good. There just wasn't anything remotely sexy about them. No chemistry between the h/h.

    Sorry, I cannot recommend this book.

    Really liked the other books in this series but this was a real disappointment. Eve was just silly compared to the other women characters in the series. And apparently Van had a lobotomy at some point since the last book ! Sorry but this was a waste of money and time.

    I must agree with most of the reviewers here. I have read all of the other books in this series and thouroughly enjoyed all of them. I like the depth of the characters, the action and the emotional connection Ms. Banks typically gives her hero and heroine. I eagerly sat down this weekend to read Donovan's story. I have loved his slightly softer edge in the other books and looked forward to learning more about him in this book and seeing what kind of woman would appeal to him. What a disappointment. The plot and character development was non-existent and I didn't feel that it was not to Donovan's personality based on the prior books. And they are in love 2 days after meeting for the first time? Sorry, but I didn't buy it. I also seriously disliked having a 15 year old boy hijack an aircraft at gunpoint and then kill his father. No mission until the last 50 or so pages and even that doesn't qualify as a "mission" with the team. Sorry, but this book was a major disappointment for character anxiously awaited by so many fans. I will also read reviews for Swanny's book (and any others) before buying again...
