Lady Windermere's Lover is the third book in The Wild Quartet series, historical romances that are based on four friends whom were all scoundrels in their younger years, who each find a woman that they can settle down with, with each book focusing on a different friend this time around we have Damien, Earl Of Windermere, returning from a year away to reunite with his wife Cynthia.




Having an arranged marriage wasn't in Damien's plans, but when he is bribed with marrying a stranger for the title of his late Mother's estate Beaulieu which he lost gambling ten years ago and which resulted in his being estranged from his friends he jumps at the chance, only spending two weeks with his new wife before up and leaving for his job, when he left Cynthia she was dowdy with no sense of style and not fluent in French in which he spoke to her for in the little time they spent together, believing that with she being married to a Foreign Officer as he, she should be expected to learn and learn fast.




So it comes as a bit of a shock when he arrives home and doesn't even recognise his own wife, believing that his wife has also been having an affair in his absence with their next door Julian, Duke Of Denford and Damien's former best-friend, he decides that she is his and she will no longer associate with Julian especially since his new task at work is to investigate some paintings that are believed to be in Julian's possession.




But it's not long before Damien realises what a mistake he made in not getting to know Cynthia when they first married, and he plans to rectify that if only they can get all their secrets out in the open and learn to trust each other, they may find that they are perfect for each other, and together they will only be stronger.




At first I really wasn't a fan of Damien's, it took me quite a while to warm up to him, but once I did I thoroughly enjoyed the romance between he and Cynthia, and I was so glad that they sorted themselves out.




This was the first book in the series that I've read, while I feel that maybe I perhaps missed out on some of the storyline from the first two books this still read really well as a standalone, I do plan on rectifyig that at some point and reading the series the whole way through, it was still a really enjoyable book that I read in one sitting, and I look forward to the others, this is historical romance done well.

Damian would do anything to get his family estate back. He marri

Damian would do anything to get his family estate back. He married a lady so he could get the property back and after a brief time with her left. Now a year later he has come back to rumors that his wife has a lover. Not just any lover but a man he used to call friend and the man responsible for him losing his estate. Cynthia never really had the chance to know her husband before he left. She has done what he asked and learned to improve herself. She has also decided she to use some harmless flirting to get her husband back. It backfires on her when Damian doesn't believe that she has had a lover. Now she is trying to convince him she is an innocent and get their marriage on good grounds. Both are stubborn and have to learn to talk before it will work out.

Cynthia in some ways is a vixen. She hasn't cheated on her husband but she does hope rumors will bring him home. She buys stuff that she really doesn't like to get even with him. She believes in helping others who need it and comes up with some good ways of doing it. She has a curiosity about her as well that works great for Damian. Damian can be moody, hard headed and stubborn. Yet like Cynthia you can't help be drawn to him. I love when he finally begins to open up to her and shows his softer side.


Besides two great main character i enjoyed this story for the plot and background. It has a cause in it I had not heard of but am now going to look up. It is fascinating and shows how little some woman had a say in historical times. I love how Cynthia steps in to help them in her own way. There is also an element of danger as someone wants some paintings and thinks Cynthia is the key to getting them. Damian has to grow a lot in this book and open his eyes. He does open his heart but still fights to see the truth. I love how they both want each other but for different reasons fight it. If you enjoy historical romance books this is a must try.

A lovely and sweet historical romance, Lady Windermere's Lover w

A lovely and sweet historical romance, Lady Windermere's Lover was a wonderful read. I really liked this sweet book and I really enjoyed reading it.

Cynthia was a great heroine. I really liked how she gained strength and decided she wasn't going to take less then what she deserved from her husband. She might have bowed to his whims at the start of their marriage, but she wasn't going to do that anymore. And, she was a genuinely kind and likable character. I thought she was lovely.

Damian was also good. He started out as, honestly, a bit of a jerk. He was angry about having to marry to regain the estate that he never should have lost in the first place and took it out on Cynthia. So, at the start of their marriage, it was a lot of indifference and contempt on his side. But, when he returned, he had to fight to get the favor of his wife and that snapped him out of it. He still had moments of being an idiot and being remarkably oblivious, but he realized his mistakes and tried to correct them. By the end of the book, I quite liked him.

The romance was okay. I felt like a need more of it, though. It took a while for Cynthia and Damian to actually talk and start working out their issues. And, while they were waiting on that, they acted distant. But, they were still good together, when they finally got to work. And, there was definitely some heat between them. I thought they were great together.

The plot was well paced and I was kept interested the entire way through. I enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely.

Lady Windermere's Lover was a wonderful historical romance. It was a sweet, lovely book that I really enjoyed reading. Romance lovers, you'll want to check this book out.

This is not my favorite Miranda Neville book.  Damian is a jerk

This is not my favorite Miranda Neville book.  Damian is a jerk for a large part of the book.  I just had a hard time developing  real interest in his character.  In fact, I was rooting for Julian to pull out to be the hero.

Still fabulous

This is not Miranda's best work; however, it is still fabulous, historically consistent with the era, and heartbreaking in its own way. The hero had a lot of work to do to get his wife to take him back into any kind of non-superficial relationship.

This is book 3 in the Wild Quartet.

Lady Windermere, Cynthia, has lived the last year without her husband. Shortly after their marriage, Lord Windermere took a government assignment out of the country. Since then, she has been hanging out with her friends and basically living her life as she wants with no husband to answer to. 

Damian, Lord Windermere, didn’t want to get married but found it was the only way that he could get the deed to his mother’s home from the owner. He lost the deed to his mother’s home during a card game with one of his best friends. Unfortunately, that friend lost it to someone else later that night. The owner would only give it back to Damian if he married the owner’s niece. 

During their time apart, Cynthia has spent a lot of time with Damian's former best friend. Now that Damian is back, he forbids Cynthia from spending time with him. Even though Damian believes she has been unfaithful to him, Cynthia just couldn't bring herself to have an affair.

Even though Damian never wanted this marriage he finds himself falling for his wife. Can he make this a real marriage after that way he had treated his wife?

I really enjoyed this story. Cynthia has been a secondary character in the previous stories and what little information we were given about her, had me on pins and needles waiting for her story. She has had an on-going flirtation with the Duke of Danford, who use to be one of her husband’s best friends. I also wanted to know why Damian married Cynthia and then soon abandoned her. Neville did not disappoint me! 

We see Damian come back into his wife’s life and demanding that she end her affair with Danford. She is not willing to do so (even though it never got physical). Damian was not around for her and Danford was. She is not willing to give up her friendship. I really liked that she stood up for herself and didn't let Damian run all over her. The story also included the dynamics of Damian's relationship with his former friends. Cynthia had become friends with them and had one type of relationship with them and then Damian had to re-establish his relationships. This added another level to the plot development.

Neville's next story in the series is the Duke of Danford's. I can't wait to read it!!
